Paris attacks again

Stick the news on. 35 dead so far. As many as 100 hostages. Seen footage of France vs Germany as the explosion went off. Everyone locked in, on pitch. Mental.

Is it in America or Europe? Cause I couldn't care less what happens to you commies.

Sky News right now showing footage outside the theatre.

Congratulation to the French for an unlikely military victory.

William_the_Bloody 11-13-2015 05:26 PM

Crazy! How many terrorists attacks have there been in Europe now?

The London subway bombings, the soldier hacked up with a machete, Madrid train bombings, bombs in Sweden, shootings in Denmark, bombs in Paris, shootings in Paris, and on and on and on.

What the f)ck is going on over there?

Cuthbert 11-13-2015 05:37 PM

162 deaths reported?

Neapolitan 11-13-2015 05:47 PM

I heard that the Eagles of Death Metal held a concert, and concert goers were killed. Trying to find information on it.

@The Batlord this terrorist attack is a tragedy for the French, so save your shtick for something not as serious as this.

It was. They held several of them hostage and quite a few of the concert goers were killed, as were the two attackers, in the ensuing standoff with police.

Cuthbert 11-13-2015 05:53 PM

It was well over 100, the theatre is called the Bataclan. It's all over the news you can't miss it.

Frownland 11-13-2015 05:58 PM

The number of deaths is likely a highly unreliable number at this point in reporting. The police give estimates (when they speak at all) and the 24 hour news cycle spits it back out at the public so that they can do it first.

John Wilkes Booth 11-13-2015 06:01 PM

who did paris attack this time?

William_the_Bloody 11-13-2015 06:33 PM

I just got home from work when I heard the news, so I didn't know much at the time. I've been watching BBC news for a while now. France is in a state of emergency, it's insane.

I hope you wouldn't say something like this about a specific race, so please refrain from dismissing a group of people based simply on nationality. Because quite honestly, one's not far from the other.

William_the_Bloody 11-13-2015 09:01 PM

Death toll rises to 120. Let's hope it stops there!

Paris attacks: At least 120 dead, 5 attackers 'neutralized' - World - CBC News

Chula Vista 11-13-2015 09:10 PM

Up to 8 attackers now. All dead. Most by suicide bomb. Crazy.

William_the_Bloody 11-13-2015 09:34 PM

Sadly the death toll as risen to 150.

Paris attacks: At least 150 killed, all attackers believed dead - World - CBC News

William_the_Bloody 11-13-2015 10:02 PM

Apparently most of them were murdered at the Eagles of the Death Metal show, sadly....it was an all ages show.

I think I'm going to turn the radio off now, night.

You wouldn't joke about 9/11 the day after it happened. This terror attack may not have been in America, but joking about it is just tasteless.

Janszoon 11-14-2015 06:41 AM

Pretty disappointed to see people making jokes about this.

Exactly. This is just heartbreaking news. I wish they could all realize this simple fact: these were music fans, doing what any of us would do, just going to a show. Then to be viciously attacked without warning? It could have happened to any of us.

Nameless 11-14-2015 07:27 AM

Would you feel better if they were sitting in a Burger King talking about football?

Considering that it appears that most of the victims were teenagers and young 20 something kids, I find it pretty morally reprehensible myself... but that's the internet for you.

It's just that this hits closer to home than other recent masacres. Most of you are out of school so school shootings aren't relevant to you. Again, these are music fans. This could have been any one of us.

Nameless 11-14-2015 09:06 AM

This just confuses me. Just yesterday I think almost like 50 were killed in Beirut, large amounts of people die from things like this on an almost daily basis and nobody says anything about it really... then it happens at a concert in a first world country and it's like the planet stops spinning. It's creepy to me. Where is this level of outrage the other hundred thousand times this happens?

I guess that's why I have a hard time taking reactions on forums seriously. I think it's mostly just people hamming it up. Someone will get all mad that someone said something that wasn't 100% supportive even though those same people usually say absolutely nothing.

That's true as well. The media sure does it's part in not bringing those events to light.

There really isn't anything we can do about it but honor their memories though. To most, cracking jokes is the equivalent of apathy.

Nameless 11-14-2015 09:49 AM

Oh well. Looks like they actually had to bring people into France for the attacks and it wasn't just... migrants. That is an important little piece of info.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it's better to be a bit less cavalier in the immediate aftermath of such highly publicized events.

@Nameless

It's info. If I was informed that some random woman was raped and murdered in Central Park last night I'd feel just as bad as I do about Paris. On the other hand, the whole Middle East thing is a complete cluster **** which most of us have become numb to by now.

JWB comes in with a sarcastic comeback in 5... 4... 3... 2......

Pet_Sounds 11-14-2015 11:01 AM

U2 has apparently cancelled their upcoming concert in Paris.

It'll be interesting to see if this means that the French government's response will be even more severe. I imagine the highest ranking government official being in that kind of danger will make him take this particularly personally. I'd be surprised if French nationalists didn't gain even more influence.

To say nothing of the rest of Europe for that matter.

Western countries have little to no cultural connection with that part of the world. When something happens in "our neck of the woods" it just feels a lot closer to home. Tribalism, basically. Not a good thing, but at least it makes us care about some parts of the world other than our own little slice of it.

I can't imagine what would happen if U2 went through with it. The suicide rate in Paris would skyrocket.

MB: The equivalent of the kids table at Thanksgiving dinner.

To be fair, the U2 jokes are the only ones that have been even remotely funny.
