AFAIK daisy dukes aren't so much redneck as they were just popularized by a show about rednecks, and sleeveless flannel? Really?

I put redneck and hillbilly together. I was exposed to a lot as a kid living in rural Yosemite.

Rednecks and hillbillies are related but quite different. Rednecks are like the Diet Coke of hillbillies. They're trashy, regressive, and have similar aesthetics, but rednecks are presentable in semi-polite society, whereas hillbillies should never be seen by anyone outside America.
