Then what's the point? He can't make me happy but he can torment me to settle a bet? That sounds more like House than a deity.

It means no one has a perfect track record where one can please everyone all the time. I think it is a profound statement. It is true about almost everyone. Even in music. Do the Beatles please everyone all the time? Does Genesis please everyone all the time? I know a certain someone who does not like the album Genesis as amazing as it is. It is one of the greatest records of the 80s. One of their finest works. Does "Office Space" please everyone all the time? I think not. And I know you will agree with me on that.

Killing a man's children, or doing nothing to stop it, when you're the reason they're dead in the first place, is not "failing to please". It's complicity in murder.

Not when there are drunk psychopaths living in the sky murdering children.

So who is doing the killing again?

When Mord post that quote from Abraham Lincoln I thought it was intended for the Bible story. That the story of Job does not please everyone all the time. As I see it the Bible and even the concept of a Beneficent God is not pleasing to all people.

If Ted Bundy strangles your mother while I watch and fondle myself are you really going to care that I didn't even touch her?

Murdered children are not beneficent. Okay maybe they are.
