As much as I enjoy that one, it's a fact that nobody cared about No New York when it came out. "No Wave" was a "non starter" (in the words of my old roommate Ellis who moonlit as a drummer in noise groups around Austin).

Hell, even Eno didn't really champion it all that much despite being heavily involved as the producer and all that. He had moneyz to make. $$$

The point where people actually started to care about post-punk was when it stopped sounding like punk in a legitimately sincere manner.

Why anyone cares what anyone else cared about at some point back in time is the real pressing question.

Just take the music as it is on its own merits.

But that's just me. Whenever people start arguing about these things, my eyes glaze over.
