Yeah it is a thing. Even if they don't create a big scene. I have personally experienced the heavy sighs and bs but you are right that it is possible to be against the discounts but not make a big deal about it because you don't care enough.

When did I claim to have alternatives? You want broad answers to very specific questions. The alternatives to the War in Iraq would obviously be very different from alternatives to WWI. Find me a war that you think could not have been avoided, and I'll do some research and get back to you about how I think it could have been better handled. As Frown already stated, there hasn't been a war that actually threatened our freedom in a very long time, in recent history we have mostly gone to war for power, money, etc.. not protection. It is not the United States job to police the world when we have our own problems to solve, if you feel it is we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Also, I've never seen a video of the idiots that make a scene over giving vets discounts, and if I ran a store the only people that got discounts/benefits would be repeat loyal customers (not based on their life accomplishments).

I don't understand what that has to do with this topic or reasonable justifications for entering into war.

THERE IS NO REASONABLE JUSTIFICATION FOR ENTERING INTO WAR. Yet they've been happening since the beginning of time because it all comes down to land, ego, threat, land, fear, weapons, more ego, more land, and on and on and on.

What the hell is your point DWV? Ignoring reality? It is what it is. Get yourself elected to head of the UN councel and then make some worldwide changes. Otherwise your point is, well, pointless.

Unicorns don't exist. Sorry to burst your bubble.

then I bet if you check the gap between whites that enlist as an officer vs. whatever you call your "bout to get shipped to the dessert" enlistment it ain't pretty

Non-officers are just called "enlisted".

It's not just that I don't care (though I don't), I just see no reason to be a dick to someone who hasn't necessarily done anything to earn it over something so irrelevant. I also don't want to get fired :p:.

I think self-defense can be a pretty reasonable justification for entering into war.

Just because we're not world leaders doesnt mean we can't discuss these issues.

I guess WWII might qualify as a war for our freedom, if only because a world dominated by Nazi Germany and imperial Japan would probably undermine the Western democratic chokehold on world affairs and bring dictatorships to the forefront. Not that our reasoning for entering the war was altruistic or anything, but I guess you could make the case. As far as I can remember the last war truly defending our country was the War of 1812.

If there was still a draft I would respect the troops a lot more (not that I directly hold disrespect for the military, I just see them as normal people) because the majority of them are getting shafted and deserve a break.

I'd sooner go to prison, than go to war on behalf of this country, unless I felt the war was justified. Why people would rather go risk their lives in a war they do not support than go to prison is baffling to me.

Right here is where you claim there are alternatives.

You don't think those actions go hand in hand with protecting us? I guess you think that the only time we should be involved in a war is when it is already too late and they are on our shores.

Ahh you edited in the last part but minorities represent 40% of the military.

I didn't look up the stats for minorities in officer ranks but I would have to agree.
