Congressional Democrats Join Republicans to Undermine Biden Administration’s Surprise Medical Billing Rule

Quote:

Congressional Democrats are joining Republicans in a last-ditch effort to undermine the newly implemented No Surprises Act, which bans surprise medical bills. A key provision in the law could become a first step toward allowing the federal government to standardize rates for medical procedures covered under private insurance plans, an objective the private health care industry has fought for decades.

The big dust up today seems to be Mitch McConnell alluding to his belief that black Americans aren't Americans. Not surprising, not a mistake I thought he'd make.

James Carville on why Manchin is actually good, Sinema less so, and why 2022 isn’t quite hopeless yet.

rubber soul 01-30-2022 07:31 AM

I like Carville, and he's right. We have to stop whining and make our voices heard. Activism didn't die with Martin Luther King after all.

Queen Boo 01-30-2022 08:25 AM

Carville is a run of the mill neolib who represents everything wrong with the Democratic Party, he doesn't want our voices to be heard he just wants us to get in line and vote for whatever mediocre candidates the party establishment insists are our only future.

I'm so sick of all these "strategists" who have been blabbing their mouths on TV for 30 years and still haven't been right about anything.

The whole reason people don't care about the Democratic Party is because they do nothing for anybody but peddle identity politics in lieu of material politics that might actually help people and have been doing so for so long that nobody believes government is capable of materially benefiting their lives, so that when someone like Bernie comes along and advocates something like Medicare for all the public doesn't even believe it's achievable. What this idiot is advocating for is simply more nothing that will inevitably lead voters to turn to the next right wing populist who comes along because whatever else they're saying their pro-business, anti-socialist rhetoric is at least in line with what voters have been conditioned to believe is within the realm of possibility. James Carville is just leading you down a defeatist path to fascism.

Queen Boo 01-30-2022 12:13 PM

Identity politics is important and anyone on the left who trivializes it is playing into the right's hands, the right are the undisputed masters of identity politics and they know it, the last thing they want is for the left to weaponize it as well, this is why self proclaimed anti-idpol leftists like Jimmy Dore are so popular with the right because they're useful idiots.

What Democrats do is surface level pandering to marginalized communities without actually doing anything to change the system that is oppressing them. The problem isn't identity politics, the problem is that everyone knows the Democrats are full of sh*t.

Yeah 100%, I just didn't think of specifying when I posted. My greater point is that the Dems use fake idpol as a distraction, not that real idpol isn't important.

rubber soul 01-30-2022 01:27 PM

I can't argue that the Dems aren't guilty of pandering when they obviously are. I mean, who cares what the next justice looks like as long as he/she is a fair one? Blacks know this too but, unfortunately, they don't have anywhere else to go.

The Batlord 01-30-2022 08:00 PM

Oh and his point that the right are focusing on state elections while the Democrats are largely dropping the ball is absolutely correct but the idea that you can win elections, any elections, by retreating from issues that the right has successfully turned into a minefield is like starting a marathon by shooting yourself in the foot. If people don't believe that the Democratic Party will materially benefit their lives then how are they supposed to win elections and gain power so that they can materially benefit people's lives?

Someone gets it.

The idea that the Democrats can win just by playing it safe and refusing to do anything that might alienate swing voters is incredibly naive. When the other side has complete control over the narrative of every hot button issue you don't win just by saying "I'm better than the other guy" over and over again, Democrats tried that in 2016, it didn't work.

The Democrats will say this?

TheBig3 05-03-2022 08:40 AM

Well played, but you know what I mean. The people who said your vote doesn't matter, or that the two parties are the same are just as responsible for this as Trump was in appointing 3 Supreme Court Justices.

I mean you were responding to a post where I was only talking about Democrats with "they" so it would stand to reason grammatically that you were also talking about Democrats. This happened with our last interaction where you seemed to be responding to my post by ignoring what I had actually written to interject a furious screed that was spinning over and over again and it comes across just a tad unhinged.

But to address your point yes the two parties aren't the same and some people don't like voting cause they want to LARP as revolutionaries online but it doesn't do much to disabuse these folks of these notions when the Democratic Party doesn't actually expend any energy fighting for anything but just uses issues like abortion rights and vapid idpol to fundraise off of.

rubber soul 05-03-2022 11:00 AM

I think the biggest problem is the Constitution itself. I don't know the answer as to who would appoint the justices, but the politicians should certainly not be allowed to pick them. Judges are supposed to be impartial, not be ideological, right or left.

SGR 05-03-2022 11:47 AM

What's the possibility this thing is a hoax? Regardless, would the Supreme Court be allowed to comment on it and clarify? I don't think there's ever been a leak like this in the past, but correct me if I'm wrong.

rubber soul 05-03-2022 11:50 AM

They didn't. It was leaked and Roberts is pissed. He's calling for an investigation.
