I mean yeah anime has it's share of morally reprehensible trash, no goddamn doubt about that, every medium does, and it's hardly the only medium that attracts a right wing fanbase, look at Gamergate and Comicsgate, it's definitely a growing problem in nerd culture.

But I assure you not all nerds are like this, I know plenty of gamers, weebs, comic book nerds, furries and miscellaneous weirdos who are extremely left wing.

Fascists try to attach themselves to different communities like parasites, especially ones that have some kind of stigma attached to them because it's easier to prey on vulnerable young people that way, in reality most people in these communities want nothing to do with them, they are a vocal minority, it just happens that vocal minorities thrive on the internet and if people blindly accept that a community "belongs" to them they win.

The ones I dealt with while modding a subreddit were all Jordan Peterson fanatics.

What TheBig3 gets wrong, afaic, is the "anime is *intrinsically* fascist" bit. It's what some would call an "essentialist" way of looking at things. Its opposite, the "historicist" outlook, would instead examine how anime came to be associated with a certain set of ideas in the US, what are the economic, cultural, technological, demographic, gender etc etc factors that conditioned this particular reception. I'm sure there are thousands of Tumblr posts making the claim that beating off to anime is an act of liberation from the straightjacket of heteronormative sexuality or something to that effect. How come those voices were "marginalized" and so forth.

An example from a different area: Nietzsche, the guy of the Ubermensch, Blond Beast, slave morality etc etc fame, was claimed as an important precursor by the Nazis - but also (and no less plausibly) by quite a few of the left-wing radicals behind the 1968 student riots, les soixante huitards. There's always more than one story to be told.

I've seen most things Ghibli. The first 30 minutes or so of Ponyo is Ghibli at its greatest to me, but the second half let's down a little bit.

Other than that, I may prefer the story of Mononoke, but visually and entertainually, Spirited Away is my favorite.

Edit:

So about the school shooting, isn't it the US in a nutshell? You can't get an abortion, but an AR15 is no prob.
