Well now I gotta do a deep dive. I'm guessing he's more of a singles artist than an album artist? Album artists weren't even a thing back then right?

He released a lot of studio albums but yeah there’s no shame at all starting with a greatest hits collection and seeing if you want to branch out from there.

Like SGR pointed out George Jones at his best is totally essential. I’m not going to say goat but his best is up there with anybody.

Oh and mega ups for Loretta Lynn. I don't know if there's a country artist who can put a bigger smile on my face. I don't know how the same woman who did "Fist City" and "Don't Come Home A-Drinkin" also did "Rated 'X'" and "The Pill" while making it all pure fun but I try not to ask too many questions. That is one complicated gal.

You know anytime I listen to any country I have to go back to Townes Van Zandt. It's not like any other genre. Whenever I listen to thrash metal I don't have to go back to Slayer. Whenever I listen to pop I don't have to go back to Ke$ha. Whenever I listen to punk I don't have to go back to the Ramones. But when I listen to country I eventually have to go back to Townes cause there's no other artist of any kind who I feel truly understands and expresses purely the misery of simply existing that is the most constant and central feeling of my life and when I get within any distance of him he becomes a siren I must follow.
