I already clarified they don't "need" them in any existential sense, they just... uh... really want them as one and thus will continue to prop them up. Which was my original point.

The Russia comparison was that they don't "need" crimea in any existential sense but that Crimea was important enough to protect. You then erroneously brought in culture as if it's Russian culture that makes them want to secure access to the black sea and not basic geopolitics.

I can't help but think there's more to all this sporadic nitpicking than your apparent China worship. You think I'm moving in on your territory, don't you? Maybe if we ask nicely, Batlor can serve as a buffer

I think the geography shapes the culture rather than vice versa. And given Russia's geography, Crimea is of inherent strategic importance. But we really are splitting hairs here.
