My education would cost more than that today. At the time I paid as I went. The federal minimum wage has barely doubled while rent has increased around 600% and tuition has increased 1000-1200%. People talking about working their way through school these days are so full of ****. With the work I was doing back then you can’t even work your way into an apartment.

Janitor on campus before classes
Dishwasher after classes

Among other thises and thats - mostly restaurant ****

Almost always had one full weekend day off and was able to go to punkrock shows and got drunk and stoned everyday and almost always had a girlfriend

The janitor gig was 4 hours but I had a hiding spot where I usually studied for two of them and also watched the sunrise. I cleaned science labs, the medical library, and a bunch of professors offices. No **** professors with Marxist **** on their walls would lodge a complaint if a single post-it note was left in their garbage can. And the students who arrived early would tell me **** like the water fountain wasn’t cold enough lol

My wife's debt is more than $80,000 for her teaching job that pays about $42k lmao

tbf she had to "go back" because her initial degree was in Psychology, so obviously it's possible to become a teacher for less but...yeah......-_-

I needed my subject area degree as well as an education degree but I got full ride plus a living stipend for the education component. It was actually a grant that covered out of state tuition and then I successfully campaigned for in state tuition and called the differential a living stipend. It did cover my rent and more.

my sister got a bachelor's in business with an emphasis on marketing. She has about 30-40k of student loan debt. Obviously she did the first two years of gen ed credits at a community college.

She'll pay that **** off easily though. Manages a fast food joint and is in the process of applying to be an operator of a franchise. She's pretty far along in the pieces so I think she'll get it but even if she didn't she can get a job in marketing starting around 50-60k. Being an operator can get you six figures though. She was always the ambitious one in the family. Hated being poor when we were kids and always wanted name brand ****. I didn't give a **** I was all about raising hell and getting into trouble. There was one semester in 10th grade when I got straight Fs. Don't think I even showed up most of the time.
