What do you propose he does instead?

Aren't you a brave one for standing up to the great, marauding force that is Urban.

I know the injustices of forum politics can wear down even the most stoic of posters, but seriously, suck it up. Get out more. Read a book. Go and live a little instead of bleating about a member's supposed flouting of the guidelines on a fucking music forum.

I think the disconnect is that we are from a time when MB was pretty much a free-for-all in terms of discussion and language, and community ethics and standards were member-enforced as opposed to being uselessly posted and retributively maintained. I am a supporter of the notion that if you wish to become a respected member of a forum, you should learn the in's and out's of what is acceptable and what isn't from interactions with the community itself. When someone crossed the line, we let them know by taking them aside and warning them about their actions. No one set examples for me, or most older members here. We just learned about each other and dealt with our differences in witty, often times "insulting" or "offensive" ways, yet we still had discussions that were illuminating and fun.

I get that he's been here a long time, but that doesn't give him the right to not have to follow rules. His avatar is obviously bigger than what the set requirements are. When Conan had his avatar too big, he was told to remove it, but when Urban uses a bigger avatar, it goes unnoticed.
Actually NSW's avatar is bigger than mine & she's had it for months. I don't think either of us had had any complaints about it from anybody so why would I take it down?

As for it breaking rules when the dimensions were discussed in the mod forum they were discussed as a guideline, not a rule and that's how I've always enforced it. Other people have asked me to upload avatars that are just slightly bigger than the guidelines and I've always done it for them.
If some mods want to adhere to those guidelines as a rule it's up to them and I don't ever recall being asked to take a vote on whether those guidelines should be enforced as a rule so that's how I shall continue to enforce it.

I'd also love to know why he's allowed to say things like this:

Who the hell are you?
That for one is not a very warm welcome to a new member. I don't see how noobs are meant to stick around when he can just run around like he does.
Ironically you missed out the rest of the conversation when I was nice to this person after they replied.

If there was such a site called Musicdiscussionwithretards.com I'm beginning to think it closed last week.
Again, calling out the new members. How is the community supposed to grow with comments like that.
I didn't call anybody out, I didn't name anybody it was just an observation lots of idiotic threads were being started. Anyone can make those observations if they like. I wasn't saying anything that a lot of members were saying in the shoutbox already, shall I infract all of them for saying that too?

I have kept my mouth shut since i've been here, but his attitude is not healthy to the forum. I also hope this post doesn't just get deleted, i'm speaking my mind about a member, mod or not. He shouldn't have the privelage he thinks he has because he's been here a long time.
Say what you like, It doesn't bother me.

^NSW posts don't show up as much as yours do, and if I remember correctly, the reason behind having the guidelines for the avatars was so the page doesn't get stretched when reading through posts. If it's not a rule, than why should any of the other members here have to follow it. If it's not going to be enforced as a rule, it shouldn't be displayed as one, and people shouldn't be told that there is a specific guideline when the question for avatars comes up. Not saying you bring up the guideline, but other mods do. So it can get very confusing for somebody who isn't familiar with the whole set up.

I did miss out of the rest of the conversations and even after seeing the rest of it, the approach to begin with wasn't necessary. If you have to go back and retrace your steps to explain that you were joking or just innocently picking on someone, is the joke really worth it?

I do understand that this has been a forum that has grown through the years, I know how that feels, but when rules are sent out to new members and they are told to follow them, I think everybody regardless of how long they've been here should be following the rules.

I've already stated it. Since you don't enforce the avatar guideline as a rule like other mods do, than you haven't broken that rule, I guess.

But I feel you get very close to breaking this rule, a lot.

But as it's been pointed out, that's how things have been around here for a long time. Still, I don't find it very acceptable to rip the **** out of a noob upon their arrival.
