s_k: You seem to be a genuinely nice guy, and your grasp of the English language as a non-native speaker is really amazing. Seriously, reading your posts, if I didn't know better, I wouldn't know that English wasn't your first language. You really seem to know your stuff about audio, verging on elitist audio views at time, but I can also see that's a major passion of yours - so it's natural that you'd have discriminating taste in terms of audio.
djchameleon: You are a really cool guy. I don't necessarily always agree with your taste in music (particular in the rap polls ;) ) but I admire it a lot of the time. You know what you're talking about, and you definitely (along with Dirty, s_k, and boozinbloozin) make a lot of sections on the forum, particularly the lounge, really fun to read. SATCHMO: I really admire your taste in music in general, and wish you posted 'round these parts more often. When I was just getting started posting on the site, you were one of the people that really helped me feel welcome on these boards, so I suppose you're also deserving of a super special thanks. dankrsta: I am absolutely intrigued by your taste in music. Whenever I'm on the lookout for something interesting to listen to and I see one of your posts pop up, I'm excited to check out whatever avant-garde music you've recommended in the thread. I also love that you introduced me to Tuxedomoon and Henry Cow - truly amazing stuff! bob.: You have given me some really good albums to listen to as well, and I thank you for it immensely! You also contribute so much to the site in terms of quality posting. You're an awesome member. James: I think you really are an underappreciated poster. I look through a lot of the threads which are extremely well thought out and awesome, and realize that you were the creator of the thread. Really good quality stuff, and just a really quality guy. I love how you went balls to the wall with your post on here. Brutal honesty is admirable sometimes. NumberNineDream: Your posts are very well thought-out and wonderful. Your taste in music is nothing short of great (in my opinion) and I'm also really glad that you seemed to dig the several Phish albums I recommended. There are a lot of people I really could post about, but this post here is long enough as it is. I may add later, because already a handful of people not on this list are coming to mind. |

Rainard Jalen: I hate reading his posts. Comes off as typical contrarian art school bullshit. Totally pretentious, and often hard to decipher. ProggyMan: Doesn't post much anymore, but he always came off as super arrogant and really not much fun at all. Knowledgeable enough, but damn stubborn. Pornographie_Neaveau/Whatever he changed his name to: Strongly disliked this guy. He was totally arrogant, liked lame no wave/post-punk shit (and don't even ****ing start lecturing me on the artistic merit of such music) and just made threads on it all day. The one picture he posted of himself pretty much confirmed his douchebaggery. Pretentious pre-hipster joker with boots and some weird vest thing. The world needs less of those people. |

And it genuinly hurts me when people decide they want to listen to good music via bad sound systems or laptops. It's such an awful thing to read. Then I know there's a lot of crap out there that a lot of people fall for because of good advertising. I just want to protect people from buying bad stuff I guess. Apart from that you may have figured, read and noticed that I do have some weird weak spot for you. I really like you a lot. Haven't really got a clue what the main reason for this is. You do something right somehow. Don't change! |
I just wanted to take a moment to mention a few people who, though I rarely chat directly with them, are folks who I have something about which to say...
dankrsta: I think the fact that she managed to go from newbie to mod in half a year or so really says something about the kind of person she is. I'm a big fan of both her taste in music and the way she talks about it, and in some ways I find her a bit enigmatic which just makes her all the more interesting to me. Definitely a person whose posts I always look forward to reading. ThePhanastasio: If we were the same age and went to the same high school I guarantee we would have hung out. Because (a) I was a drama geek and (b) she's really laid back with a great sense of humor and that's exactly the kind of person I always hung with. Needless to say, even though I don't think we have much in common on a musical level, I really enjoy having her as part of this forum clutnuckle: I wish I had such amazing taste when I was 17 and was as good at writing about it as this guy. He always has great insights and amazing suggestions. CanwllCorfe: Maybe I have a bit of a bias because I know he's one of the only people on MB studying to go into the same line of work as me, but I feel a kind of kinship with him. Even though our music tastes only overlap slightly, I love the fact that he's always mentioning artists I've never heard of, it keeps things fresh around here. There loads of other people I want to spill my guts about too, but I'm terrible about actually finishing long lists of these comments so I figure I'll just start posting a few at a time instead. |

You've got a great taste in music yourself (Phish is one of the many examples), and love your taste in literature and films too. *Plus a great playwright. Cheers. |

Enigmatic? Hahaha...well I can see how I might appear like that because I don't post much about myself personally. I'm kind of new to online communities and this is the first forum that I've been really active in, so in a way I still don't feel the need to write much about myself in whatever form. I always think 'Why should people care?' But, I definitely don't shy away from revealing such things when asked (well, to an extent, like most people). Hmm, I guess the longer I'm here the more open I'll become. What's ironic is that I'm more open in real life, so not really enigmatic :). |
Warning: This thread is getting way too personal.
Cut the insults - if you have something negative to say about a poster you should say it tactfully. Sometimes the old adage is true: if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything. That's not to say you can't express a negative opinion, but DO NOT insult or belittle the person in question. If something negative is said about you - DON'T FEEL OBLIGATED TO RESPOND and start a flame war. Sometimes you just need to turn the other cheek, take things with a grain of salt, etc. You're all expected to act like adults and not turn this thread into high school. We cool? Cool. |

I'll spill some thoughts Big3 - I have never talked to you directly or even really participated in a discussion with you. Always like your posts though, it's obvious you are a smart guy and usually add some hilariousness in your posts in a way different than most members. I enjoy reading your posts. I realize I represent pretty much exactly what I assume you despise about the way MB has changed in your opinion. By that I am referring to majority of my posts in the lounge, not participating in Music Clubs, writing reviews, giving recommendations, etc. I'm just not smart enough on any music topic to really contribute to anything else than what I already do. I'm probably the least musically knowledgeable person on MB and don't have a problem admitting that. So apologies to you and other longtime members of MB who dislike members like myself. I wish I could contribute in more positive ways, but I'm just not smart enough to do so. Tore - You've been really helpful. I think we may have had some little spats in some animal threads, but you're really helpful and I appreciate what you do. I thought the What's Happening on MB thread was a great idea and I respect the intelligence of your posts. Janszoon - You came off kinda douchey sometimes towards me, and I'll admit I was pretty douchey during my beginning here. I guess you have to spend some time around a forum to really get the jist of attitudes and styles and for awhile it seemed like I was being attacked in a way, particularly by some mods. But I've come to like you and hold no beef towards you. Some of your posts I find pretty funny and like the sarcasm at times. Vanilla - Haven't talked to you much, but generally appreciate your seemingly light-hearted attitude. I still don't find anal bead polls to be funny, but I enjoy the playfulness of your posts. TheCunningStunt - For awhile just pinned you as a pretentious douche with a "I hate everyone and the world" attitude. Then again, I think that's kinda the reputation you are looking for. You, GB, and Plum were regular "Let's bash dirty even if he doesn't say anything rude or disrespectful" group members in the shoutbox for awhile, but with time that faded and I find you generally funny. I like your posts in a weird way and I am usually appreciative of your .gifs. Best thread starter was well-deserved. Thom Yorke & boozlinbloozin - Two of the newer guys who I am glad have stuck around. Us 3 help keep the sports section of this forum alive and well (I'm sure other do too but I guess I'm referring to mainly American sports). I usually find myself agreeing with Thom and we have a lot of common interests. Boozin cracks me up with his posts on anything related to beer and being drunk, and also with sports opinions. He has some sexist views sometimes but I find them funny and see where he is coming from mostly all the time. Glad these two fools are around. djchameleon - Many otherwsie boring nights have been spent talking about random topics in the Shoutbox. Glad he is in there, cause otherwise I'd find myself more bored around this forum. He usually serves as the other male perspective on non-music topics in the Shoutbox and I support his expression of ass-loving through avatars. Tumor - I really like you as a member even though you are a spastic and random retard at times. Well, most of the time probably. Your style of humor is pretty funny to me and I appreciate you busting peoples balls in shoutbox. You're just an oddball and different and I like you. s_k - I won't join the mini-hate club cause I think you're a nice guy and pretty cool to talk to, even though I think you're a bit weird as I've said many times with the excessive use of smilies and hugging. I don't mind the things you talk about cause a lot of times I'm the one asking questions about it and I recognize you really like MB and contribute to it. Just sometimes you get on my nerves with your motherly type of attitude. I view it like two young children arguing and a Mom coming in and going overboard and screaming at them like they've just committed the worst sin known to man. But like i said, I like you and really like your videos too and never got the "know it all" vibe from you like I think a few others mentioned. |

@Janszoon...just never really seen you actually take offense at someones comments and lose composure. You just didnt strike me as that kind of person...as a way of making light of the inmature behavior some of us (like me) choose to partake in. It would seem more fitting for your style to mock the situation all together. With a sort of mimicking display of what most would deem...inmature behavior.

I definitely find you to be a very nice, cool dude. Your sense of humor is great, and you've definitely made me laugh in more than one thread. You also contribute some really intelligent posts as well, which do add to the quality level of the forum. As a member, a person, and a mod I give you an A+. |
Janszoon: You piss me off a little sometimes. You're usually really knowledgable about what you're talking about, but you seem kinda full of yourself.
|
Janszoon is the coolest mod of all. Except maybe Mojo but he's been MIA for a while.
|
Janzsoon's taste in music, and humor are both amazing. I have no complaints.

Janszoon: The coolest, most badass motherfucker on MusicBanter.

Hi everyone.
I think you're all wonderful marvelous and incomprehensible individuals, and I believe the way I relate to the ideas I extract from your posts has little to do with who or what you are, which perhaps is absolute nothingness. I feel good when you give me attention and I feel down when I get called pretentious or a dick, but as time goes by the highs and lows approach a base-line not of indifference but of a gentle and quiet happiness. After all, what are you really giving attention to? What are you really responding to? Hell if I know. Once I could judge you based on how your music taste related to mine, but I'm finding my taste to be more and more arbitrary and less of a concern, so I've lost track of all that. Then for a while it was based on philosophical ideas, and where you were coming from in that respect. I'm still carrying around some of that baggage, but it's also become much less important. Then there's how you present yourself, the amount of respect and affection you bring into a thread, but that's a little hard to judge online, and it's always twisted with irony and sarcasm and whatnot, hard to really get attached to. That said, I'll throw out some arbitrary perceptions I've had in my time here of those who I can remember right now having grabbed my attention. I always liked Molecules because he seemed really relaxed and confident, moving between absurdity and sincerity like it ain't no thing. Jackhammer always struck me as being the emblem of common sense, one of those people it seemed I was always finding myself next to but speaking a different language and never really having anything to say to. I felt Boo boo in a boo boo kind of way, but it seemed all too often I was trying to convince him of something, so it's only fair he reacted to me as he did. When I first joined the forum, Right-Track and Urban seemed like the big kids on the playground, and I've never quite lost that perception. I always wanted to catch Urban's attention with my musical tastes but after a while it seemed that I had slipped under his radar completely so I tried to stop caring and eventually did. As for R-T, I always admired him though like with JH I felt I never really had anything to say to him, different areas of interest and all. I consider Tore and Neopolitan my debating buddies from the uber-philosophical era, I always appreciated Neopolitan even though I didn't quite know what to make of him, and I appreciated Tore as well though I always felt that he didn't quite get it, and if I could just give him a tiny push he would see where I was coming from... but where the hell was I coming from? I just took him for the face of science, I guess, and science just felt a little boring and plain compared to ecstatic realizations of timelessness and the limitlessness of existential possibilities. A bunch of you blend together, I'm sad to say, I tended to categorize people who posted about getting shwasted or hot chicks as frat types and people who posted a lot of ironic comments as hipsters-in-denial. Totally unfair but so it goes. SATCHMO and Mr. Dave always felt like spiritual brothers, which is to say, when we got into the "deep" shit everything we were saying just felt kind of redundant and it felt like I was talking to myself. But hey, I love talking to myself. SATCHMO is the patient, respectful side and Mr. Dave is... the other side :P Love you both. Ethan for some reason always felt like the most personal member on the board, probably because people called him by his first name. I always felt a pressure to connect with him, but I don't think I ever really did. Still, I listened to your music, and that's something, right? Sharing music is sharing the soul, and I think that's my favorite aspect of this site. Which leads me to Catie and Lateralus, who have shared their music with me, and both seem like very nice and sensible people. Kudos. Big3 and Adidasss... I think I can say most about how I perceive y'all by how I bunch you together. Another yin and yang pair to me. I loved Adidasss, didn't really agree on anything musical but the rest of the time I felt like we could flow pretty well. With Big3 it felt like we were always avoiding a head-on collision that was probably never going to happen anyway. Wayfarer is the man, and so is JayJamJah. Oh yeah, and Seltzer. ... and Merkaba. LuciferSam deserves a shout-out, though I don't quite remember where he was ever coming from or what he was like. I just remember being aware of him. Damn you, Sarah Wesley. WTF kind of name is that anyway? You always seemed to see right through me, but I think we have a lot in common. I really have no idea who you are these days, and I have no interest in judging you. Hope things are going well. Captain Caveman and Murder Junkie were nice in that kind of abrasive way. Oh shit, hiu. Good times. I feel like I should have something to say about Piss Me Off but I don't. No negative feelings associated with the label, for sure. I always confused sweet-nothing and loose-lips, but I liked 'em both. They struck me as twins. Janszoon and dj chameleon arrived in the time when I was already losing interest in the site, but I think they're good members. ProggyMan is very young :p: See you on the other side, buddy :) OH! Vegangelica. My fav, sorry everybody. I'm sure I'm forgetting people and stuff, but I think this post is long enough. I love you all and I hope you appreciate the shout-out and eventually attain enlightenment and help me attain it too so we can be free of all the ego-nonsense here there and everywhere. Oh, and RezZ! Good fellow! |

oojay
Self-pretentious douch whose overly-religious, homophobic ramblings could single-handedly kill the spirits all those he comes in contact with. I do apologize for my behavior during my previous tenures on here. I was young, dumb, and overly zealous. Time has caught up with me, and brought a little more wisdom. Gone are the days of crazy right-wing christainity. I'm married now with a child. I've learned to be more open-minded and to respect others opinions. I don't know too many of you (or maybe I do and just don't recognize the new usernames), or else this would make for a better post. Right-Track/ RT/ David Very intelligent and level-headed. Always respectful. Quite the model citizen here on MB. Ethan / Crowquill/ Sleepyjack / MisfitPunk Large knowledge base of obscure music. Very emotionally attached to his opinions. A good friend on his good days, and a sharp-tongued fiend on his worst. Still the guy I probably get along with the best on here. Murder Junkie / MJ Cool as f*ck. Great porn collection. The only guy I know that has a pierced penis. Bravo. Urban Hatemonger / Richard I'm not too sure that he's real, and not just a british IBM computer set loose on the internet to kill the hopes of others. He's most likely smarter than the rest of us combined. His music collection could put iTunes to shame. |

Thoughts on some noobs and non noobs
Canwll- How the ****/why the **** do you like such dark and creepy **** yet come off so damn wholesome? idgi, I'm not saying its a bad thing though. Definitely a genuinely nice dude on here and I've never seen him be anything but respectful toward other people. The Virgin - Just....wtf? I don't even know with you dude. Jack Pat - I don't really like or dislike you, but I'll tell you that you irritate me with insisting so hard that you're a Buddhist and all this, yet you always kind of come off as extremely judgmental. Il Duce - What a weird kind of guy. I think if I were born a dude in Malaysia (if that's where you were born, I don't remember), I think I'd have been Il Duce, although he doesn't seem to be as angry as I am. Wickedly shameless about his weirdness and I think that's awesome, even has the balls to put his unconventional fetishes out there. Also has the most ridic stories ever. Rezz - Rezz is like the always stoned dude who likes metal and grew a beard at 9 that only exists fictionally. Funny guy though that's all I can think of for right now, more later |
