Agreed. It's fun to argue with Janszoon because you can't anger him no matter how much you try. Believe me I have. :thumb:

Hi, I'm Annie. My username used to be TumorAttitude but then I started taking Ritalin and decided to make a new account. Like most interesting people, I spend too much time on the internet. I joined Music Banter the day after Christmas 2 years ago and I was pretty down on my life. Reading my old IRL journal entries from that time freaks me out and brings back a bunch of shitty memories. Reading my old posts does that even more. I was clearly very young, had chronic depression out the ass, and didn't know how to use the swear filter.

I don't want to go back to that place but I feel like this forum made me a better person. I shed my pretension and realized that I didn't really know much about the world or music. I lurked when I felt like I didn't have anything to contribute. I expanded my horizons and jumped out of my comfort zone. And I'm still doing that. I'm 16. I still don't know **** about music but I love it and I want to. My last.fm has 4120 and 194 artists. Thats not enough. Its never going to be enough. I hope I'm never perfect and that I never know everything because that means the end of learning and new experiences and thats really what makes me happy gives me will to live.

I've talked to a lot of amazing, genuine, beautiful people that I want to keep talking to forever. I've never met them but I feel closer to them then most of the people that I physically see every day. If I went into detail, I would just end up repeating the same words over and over again (amazing, caring, sensitive, nice, sweet, smart, brilliant, nipple-biting attractive). So here's my list. Here's my MB family. If you need a kidney, by all means, take one of mine. If you're really desperate and can't make the rent, I'll babysit and mow lawns and paypal the money to you. I love you guys.

Guys, be nice to each other unless you're arguing with somebody that seems to like it as much as you do. Be kind to the n00bs, even if they seem dense. Everybody's dense when the world is new. If you're going to be a dick, at least be funny. Get out of your comfort zone once in a while. Its New Years Eve. I'm going to go slap some paint on my face, then hopefully get wasted.

Annie, your honesty and humor are two reasons I've liked you both as "Tumor" and as "Pavement." :) :) I wish I'd been as savvy, thoughtful, and open to reaching out as you are when I was 16! I always like how you acknowledge what you feel are or were flaws in yourself. You also give good advice: be nice to each other.

Neapolitan - I'd describe Neap as a civilized lunatic. I think s/he would come to dinner in the Sunday best, with combed hair and freshly showered, but when engaged in conversation would make, at best, vague reference to topic with disjointed imagery or at worst, non-sequiters.

I have no problem with the child, I just imagine - it - as a bug-eyed Earl type from the Red Meat comic.

Ooo! I can't read this without commenting!

Neapolitan is thoughtful, friendly, funny, quirky, and respectful, a nice human all around. Neapolitan is one of the people I've felt happiest about meeting at MB. I think of him as somewhat shy, but since I am somewhat shy (no, really...I'm an introvert who just *seems* extroverted) I feel I relate to him. I wish Neapolitan would be back at MB more often, but I don't blame him for not being here much, because I don't think many of you really understand him! Why you don't, I don't know. I love Neapolitan's non-sequitors. They represent to me a refreshing and understandable reaction to the weirdness and lunacy of life. Big3, I do agree with you, though, that Neapolitan would probably dress nicely if invited to dinner. :)

I think Cardboard Adolescent and Neapolitan would get along great.

Speaking of Cardboard Adolescent: this young human's philosophical, compassionate outlook continues to inspire me. He is deep. He doesn't seem interested in superficiality. I like that about his writing and way of thinking. He is a True Philosopher, I feel. A Mystic Musician. He seems interested in living a good, full life that is meaningful, and I like seeing the part of it that plays out here at MB. When I zip up zippers, I do it with greater awareness, thanks to him. :p: When Urban started a thread about MB tossers (a thread I dislike, as I made clear in it), I still remember Cardboard Adolescent wrote sarcastically something like, "Yeay for making fun of people." Cardboard Adolescent makes his views known simply and clearly and I usually agree with them.

I categorize people into three groups: Safe, Semi-Safe, and Scary. I view both Neapolitan and Cardboard Adolescent as Safe.

Here are more of my simplistic categorizations of MB people:

The Big3...Semi-Safe! :D Sometimes Scary. Sometimes Safe. Mostly Safe. Ergo...Semi-Safe. When he talks softly... SAFE! :)

Pavement Saw ... Semi-Safe.

Urban Hatemonger ... Semi-Safe to Safe.

Right-Track ... Semi-Safe to Safe. Getting safer all the time. I will never, ever bring him beer, though. The temptation to dash it into his smug face would be too great, and I could never forgive myself for stooping that low.

Terrible Lizard ... Scary.

Tore ... Safe! Safe and sane. I wish the world were filled with 6.5 billion Tore clones. ;)

Dirty ... Semi-Safe to Safe.

Crash ... oddly, Safe. :p: He's a Dubstep Bud.

Freebase Dali ... Semi-Safe.

Adidasss ... Safe!

AwwSugar ... Safe. Safe and funny. Safe and honest. Not afraid to express her views and emotional reactions to what goes on at MB.

Nonsubmissive ... Safe! And pleasant. :)

Ribbons ... SAFE SAFE SAFE SAFE COME BACK LIZ!!!

Antonio ... Safe. Is he ever mean?

Goblin Tears ... Safe.

Moonlit ... Safe and talkative.

s_k ... Safe and expressive.

Engine ... Safe.

Paloma ... Semi-Safe to Safe.

Thirtiesgirl ... Safe, and I understand where you are coming from, fellow Feminist who is unapologetic about stating her views even if they are unpopular! If I have to hear one more male doctor talk about getting forms copied by "the girls," the adult female receptionists in dead-end, tedious, mind-numbing jobs, I think I'll puke!!! (I heard this once last year, and once was enough.) The point isn't just that referring to underlings at a job as "the girls" is demeaning, but also that we should ask what causes women to be the ones usually choosing such a job that probably wasn't their childhood dream job. My answer: pregnancy and patriarchal society. Pregnancy and raising a child should not interfere with a person's opportunities to establish and maintain a career that fulfills her. Yet societies still have not progressed to the point of allowing humans to procreate while ensuring the burdens and delights of raising children are shared equally among women and men, such that neither gender is affected more detrimentally than the other. This article gives a good example of current issues relating to gender and medical professions: Are There Too Many Women Doctors? - BusinessWeek

Pedestrian ... Safe. She gets to her point quickly, so knowing her viewpoint is easy. I like to read her posts to get a break from mine! :p:

Burning Down ... Safe. Once I saw her pick on someone, a noob, I think, for having resurrected on old thread, so I thought she might be Semi-Safe, but I recategorized her as Safe the longer I watched her actions. She has a nice taste in dresses, too, and an interesting journal.

Jackhammer ... Safe. He reminds me that life is not perfect but is worth living.

StoryMilo ... Safe, and just such a cutie!

Conan ... Safe, of course. Safe and silly.

Unchained Ballad ... Safe...horrified by underarm hair...but Safe. ;)

Dotoar ... Safe ... and an avid, thoughtful musician who seems dedicated to keeping Prog alive singlehandedly. An unapologetic fashion relic from the 70s, no one on MB is quite as fashionable as he is, I think. ;) (Except maybe Vanilla or Savannah.)

I have all the rest of you (whom I know) categorized as Safe, Semi-Safe, or Scary, too, but I'll stop here since I have to go to work and there are a lot of you!

Annie, the only reason I categorize you as "Semi-Safe" is that you are so much more *mature* than I am with respect to your use of language and insults. You are much more brazen than I am in how you express yourself. More forceful. So cowardly little me cowers down beneath all that language!

I'm a language wimp! :p: I don't fear you at all. I fear the *words*.

Thank you. I hope expressive is a good thing.
It could mean 'never shuts the **** up'. Yah. It could mean that.

Eitherway, as expressive as I am, I'm not sure what to say. There's not much people I don't like here. There's a lot of people who stand out a bit, but probably mainly because they are in the topics where I am, not because they are more or less nice. So... I might miss out on some really nice folks, making a list like this.

Vegangelica (I just now learned where here name comes from ;D) would definately be safe.

Something that sometimes shocks me is how some very nice people have a life style I really can't identify with. I probably never would get to know them in real life as they're so different. It really changes the way I think about people.

someonecompletelyrandom 01-06-2011 11:17 AM

Awwsugar still the nicest person ever. although we don't talk at all. let's remedy that soon.

Janszoon really nice guy even when he makes you realize you're a total idiot. he sometimes comes off as a little too arrogant through his sarcasm and sardonic wit, a bit like David Lettermen. only I wouldn't slug him if we met in a dark ally.

Dirty welcome back dude. your new round of posts are great!

Freebase Dali puts me to shame for joining this forum a year removed from me and posting on a level I still can't approach. great job!

Vegangelica I don't like judgmental people. In fact, I don't think there's anything worse than a judgmental person (save your rape and holocaust jokes, please). But a lot of people confuse being judgmental with having strong beliefs. With having a passion for what you believe in that can't be bottled up, even if you try. That's the kind of person Erica is, and I like those kind of people.

Paloma she isn't false. that's what I like about her. she doesn't seem concerned with superficiality. I haven't really talked to her too much but she seems very nice (to me) and very genuine

Conan made this joke a while ago.

PAVEMENT SAW pretty much seems the female equivalent of me at 16, only she's a lot more blunt and isn't afraid to tell people they're idiots. long story short, she's cool.

Stone Birds has been contributing a lot to the forum lately. keep it up man!

sleep jack should stick around. I only get to enjoy his posts briefly and then he's gone. maybe he should mod again :D

James you're one cool cat.

People who I didn't mention will be mentioned... later.

Updated since I've been here awhile now

eric_generic - My American sports forum buddy. Glad he's around to talk about football and basketball with, always good discussions and knows his NBA.

BoozinBloozin - New guy, good sense of humor. Doesn't seem to be too serious like a lot of people here. Another sports guy, love his discussions on sports and he's a funny dude.

Conan -One of the more quality posters here. Posts some funny stuff and is light hearted but has some deeper music thoughts to. I'm not even sucking up cause he said my posts were good, he's one of the best members here period

Paloma - Extremely immature and insecure. Rude. I could go on for awhile but that sums it up so I'll stop there

downwardspiral - Got to talk to him in shoutbox a lot recently. Funny dude, always up for discussion about anything, glad I've got to know him

Pavement_saw - One of my favorite members here. Blunt like Paloma, but funny too. I enjoy her busting peoples balls. Most interesting person I've run across so far.

GuitarBizarre - Always tries to bait me in shoutbox, but I don't take him seriously. Though I have fun with it when he starts having a go at me. Ironically, he calls me a troll.

s_k
- One of the nicest dudes around, almost too nice.

Conan you definitely just stole my post and quoted it as yourself. Consider that compliment retracted.

Insane Guest 01-07-2011 11:00 PM

Conan - Like everyone says, he is the best member around. He deserves member of the year 2010, which I don't know what happened to that thread but... Whatever, his posts are both funny and insightful. There is never a dull momennt with Conan around.

s_k - Very picky about his audio, which bugs me,, but to each his own. Very fun to talk and argue with, but he is just an all around good guy. Uses to many smileys though, kind of bugs me.

Dirty - Very good rapper, and one of my favorite members. Very funny, and even though some of his posts are not the best, they do brighten up threads and make them fun to read.

Paloma - Has calmed down over time, used to be very crazy-like, but she has alwyas been pretty funny and a bit random at times, needs to post more though.

Urban Hatemonger - Very cool member, never afraid to say anything, speaks his mind, does what he wants to, which I respect.

James - Very nice member, haven't talked to him at all but it seems like he is a cool kid.

Loathsome Pete, jackhammer, Urban Hatemonger - They dropped out of their positions and disappeared, need to post more!!!

xEMGx - An unknown troll that leeches off other peoples music. : P

I recall no red danger flags flying into the air during our MB interactions. My main concern with you is deciding which nickname, "Corfe" or "Canwll," to use in posts. I think I usually pick one or the other fairly randomly, but I prefer "Corfe," which I pronounce like "Corfeeee." I hope you don't mind, Corfe.

So you finally realized my username comes from vegan? You are right that vegans are safe. It's the ovo-lacto vegetarians you need to watch out for, because you never know when they'll try to milk ya! :p:

Translation: watch out for AwwSugar.

Yes, Vanilla, I feel you are safe, especially when reading your honest and emotional poems. It took me a while to decide you are safe. Sometimes I felt you jumped on people more harshly than I would, so that made me a little nervous. When I see you jump on others I think, uh oh....you might jump on me!

Then I think...hey...she might jump on me! :)

I appreciate that compliment very much, Conan.

But I'd appreciate it more if you'd stop eating ANIMALS, you shmoo-poo-poo! :bonkhead:

I like reading this thread on bad days. The first few pages, when people managed to be raw with me, it always helps me remember what I'm doing here.

I myself don't even know how to pronounce it (I don't think). I've never met anyone who can speak old welsh unfortunately. :( But I do know it means "corpse candle".

Is Welsh "P Celtic" or "Q Celtic"?

anyway I hope this helps.

Canwll I think since "canwll" is a cognate of (or related somehow to cnadle it's safe to start with the word and like a if you say "candle" [can-dəl] then drop the "d" and get [canəl]if it is then replace the schwa in "canəl" with the "oo" I really don't know if it would be [ca-nool] or [can-ool] or [can-nool] and then the only other problem I have is the the double L ("ll") from Celtic languages really doesn't have a correspondent sound in English.

Corfe is easy I think, to pronounce it take "Corvette" then drop the "ette" [corv]

I think it sound something approximately like [canool* corv]
*unsure of the double L sound

CanwllCorfe 01-14-2011 12:02 AM

P Celtic! And wow thank you! :D Now only for that damned ll..

FaSho, I used to be scared of your occasionally cruel comments until I realized you are very young and I OWNED you in the Fake Argument Thread! Ha! :D At least, that's my memory of it. We can't check now, because I think I deleted my scandalous messages there especially once I realized you aren't an adult. Or weren't. Whoops! My bad! :o:

This IS very helpful, Neapolitan. So I should be calling Corfe "Corv" instead of my preferred "Corfeeeee." Hmm. I still kind of like "Corfeeeee," even if it isn't a correct Welsh pronunciation.

The meaning of CanwllCorfe is pretty cool: "corpse candle." That's what Corfe said. So, I think you are right that "Canwll" means "candle." Therefore, I conclude that "corfe" must mean "corpse," which would make sense. It also means that I think CanwllCorfe should change his name to CorfeCanwll if he really wants the meaning to be "Corpse Candle," unless Welsh inverts word order compared to English.

Now, next question: what *is* a corpse candle? Maybe that's some kind of candle you set by the body of your beloved in Wales as you feel misery over the loss of his or her spirit/mind. Now I'm sad, reminded of death.

But I'm happy to see you posting here, Neapolitan! :) I always have glowing things to say about you. You are so funny and kind-spirited! Who else on MB would take the time to think so earnestly about the pronunciation of CanwllCorfe?

Me, that's who! :p:

oh the dread double L! It's is a voiceless lateral fricative and the symbol for the phoneme is [?] which is appropriate imo. It appears in Welsh place names like "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyllllantysil iogogogoch." My friend taught me how to say double L in Scottish Gaelic and I was a bit reluctant to explain it because it so weird and different.

the pronunciation for "cannwyll"
cannwyll

Just jump to 2:53, for the double L

yeah I've seen, TheBigTree was comparing me to some cartoon character like the Underdog or Felix the Cat, and you jumped right in there and defended me, that nice of you I don't know what to say, it kinda reminds me of a movie quote

VEGANGELICA: You know, I hope I'm not the only person in the world that knows what an incredible person you are.
Neapolitan: Well, at this point in time, I'm afraid you are ...

Well I was funny, I don't think I can be funny anymore. I was takin' in the back room and tuned up a bit, I was told this here is a music forum and they don't want anyone out of tune around here.
