I haven't listened to Wolf, but if it has anymore of that slowing down your voice nonsense, I'll be turning it straight off. I don't want to hear it 3 albums in a row for Christs sake.

Not surprising to see a lot of conversation here. I remember hearing Taylor a few years ago. I really dug some of the songs, but some of the others I didn't really feel. Goblin had a couple good ones, but overall, the album's theme is so... I don't know... self-absorbed, I guess? There just isn't really much substance there. It's just kinda of a kid livin' out the ol' cowboy/rapper persona. The newer stuff I see is just even less interesting to me; I haven't really bothered to explore it further.

I always thought the Earl album was cooler than the others. Granted it's all kind of a teenage boy angsty thing, at least Earl could really take it there and not half linger in two lyrical worlds, and he could slow really real, and his lyrics were creative for they were going for. His never stuff though isn't really that appealing to me. It's much more esoteric and just kind of sporadic.

I always thought Leftbrain made cool beats.

MellowHype and Hodgy Beats are pretty weak.

Domo Genesis and Mike G were a little on the cooler side. Much smoother stuff. Notably different styles from the group, which is a little nice.

I always thought Domo was the absolute worst out of all of them. Very dull and generic stoner rap and nothing more to him.

On Wolf: I'm holding out for the hope that I like it and that Tyler's moved on a bit from all the teen power fantasy stuff that's now going to get rather dull to hear from again but from what you guys are saying it looks like I'll be disappointed. I guess with Earl, Frank and Mellowhype all reaching his level of fame and being better than him Tyler's place is just kind of... not necessary any more. Predicting the future I'd say he'll probably get a fairly cold reception for this one, try one more time to freshen up his style and then either come out of it as relevant again or get relegated to one of those guys that contributes the odd track or two to the OF mixtapes, assuming the group's still around at that point.

It's ironic that there's this group of tearaway rebels who want to stick their middle fingers up to society and do things all their own way...and likely the only one who's going to have any future in the music business is the sensitively emotional homosexual r'n'b singer.

Their fans are about as bad as Insane Clown Posse's as well.

I've just transferred myself to one of the piss-taking fans who makes use of the odd #OFWGKTADGAFLQYKWTFWA420 every now and then to point out the absurdity of their average armchair fanboy. And I'd say Frank being the only member of them still standing in ten years is probably the best victory we can hope for given their inevitable fall.

Don't get me wrong, I liked them 2 years or so back. As an album I really enjoyed Goblin, but after discovering Bastard after hearing Goblin, they were pretty much the same.
The last thing the world needed was another Tyler the Creator album which uses the same tactics of;

'say something shocking, make reference that you're probably too white to understand it, instrumental break, deep slowed down voice saying 'golfwang'

rinse and repeat.

Frank obviously has distanced himself from the rest of the collective and rightfully so, he's a brilliant artist in his own right and doesn't need Tyler's immaturity bringing him down. I have no hope for Tyler (or the rest of the crew, who are pretty much his lackeys with less talent and personality) as an artist because he seems incapable of escaping the shackles of being a gimmick rapper. It's the same old stuff over and over again and alike every once funny joke, it starts to lose its effect.

Regarding their fans, mainly Tumblr obsessed suburban white kids, this is a good snapshot of them

I see the whole Odd Future fad dying down soon if it hasn't already.

Can't wait for WOLF!!!

FrigginParadox 04-01-2013 09:17 AM

Wolf is eh, he uses the same formula he used on Bastard and Goblin tho

I can't really knock any opinions on Tyler and co. without saying something pretentious like you're not getting the right signals (which I think is a lot of the case though, sorry to say), but anyone who says Frank is distancing himself from OF is very mistaken. Tyler not only has production credits on Channel ORANGE, he has a verse at the end. Hidden track or no, his input is obviously still valid to Frank, and the two have similar influences on the art - the most obvious being film. Both are also very conceptual, narrative driven album artists, even though I will admit Tyler is more prone to what I would call filler.

That said, I'm gonna buy Wolf when it comes out, I would do the Deluxe release but i've not the money. :(
