Hybrid Electronica

so it seems electronica is the new genre to be hybridized, with 3oh!3 playing electro-hop (brat-rap), and Lady Gaga doing her Electro-pop, and bands being so bold to even do Electro-Rock, it seems that there is a limitless combination of genres, especially since there is a noticeable difference between electronica and house, which leads me to my next point. House-hop or hip house, which sounds basically orgasmic. Examples of this music can be heard from So Solid Crew in their song 21 Seconds to Go, or in Siditious ' song Call Me .

what other hybrid electronica is there?

I don't know that there's anything particularly new about electronica being hybridized, I'd say that been happening for a very long time.

I think he has a good point, where is the house-rap out there? I had never heard of either of those artists he mentioned. what about rave-rock? or rave-rap? these are all genres that have yet to be made.

In my opinion, I'd prefer if stuff like 'rave-rock' and 'rave-rap' are never to be created. I have this very strongest feeling in my gut that it'll just be horrible. Despite the fact that people may want to act bold and create mixed genres, I think that sometimes, it just shouldn't be done. Simply because the music doesn't mix well together. In all honesty, the thought of 'rave-rock' and 'rave-rap' makes me cringe.

But knowing how people are, it will eventually happen. Maybe not for a while, but somebody will attempt it eventually.

There's stuff that's "rave-rock" or "rave-rap" out there already. It just isn't called that.

I agree. It's just mostly not in the mainstream, which is why most people don't know.

Post-rock: You've got your atmospheric instrumental rock but also bands like Tortoise who are as much electronic as they are rock.

Instrumental hip-hop (or even just hip-hop as a whole): with or without rapping, there is heavy influence from the electronic world. That's basically what it is, it's not rock. A lot of instrumental hip-hop is very close to downtempo electronic and IDM, even. And many artists in all of these genres use live instruments such as drums, bass, electric guitar, even acoustic sometimes in their music. Even violins and pianos.

Jazz rock/jazz hip-hop: Pretty self explanatory. Karate and The Roots, for example.

I completely agree. It's fine to experiment, but be careful who you let listen to it...kids are impressionable.

Regarding house-rap or rave-rap. What comes to mind are UK Garage and 2-Step, which are more like R&B with soulful breaks/DnB but evolved out of the house scene. Then came Grime which was a little more ravey due to combining DnB and Dancehall, basically creating a "grimey" form of Jungle (which is very common at raves) but with rapping versus the typical Jungle/DnB style of MCing. And lately there's the whole wonky scene which combines electronic/IDM with a more urban/hip-hop vibe and sometimes with rapping. So somewhere in there you've got your rave-rap and your house-rap.

We are even getting Electronica combined with Drone: Soul Of The Phoenix and as Sidewinder says, Post Rock with an electronic bent. 65daysofstatic come to mind in this instance. Also the Hip Hop band Dalek have been creating some delicious downtempo almost abravise sounds with their music.

True true. Though to me the electronica + drone thing goes back to the early days of industrial. Kind of ambient industrial which has been around consistently since then. It's just getting more attention I guess, and progressing of course.

As you say it's getting more attention these days with Electronic music gaining more acceptance despite it being around for over 40 years. Throbbing Gristle were doing this sort of thing in the late 70's although they are definitely an acquired taste.

so... that first track is different than all the other pop/club crap that's come out over the last decade how? really though, it's a hybrid of what? there's nothing at all different or unique in those examples than a typical Timbaland track aside from sounding incredibly derivative.

holy crap does Siditious owe everything in that track to Buck 65 or what?
