Vanilla's Dubstep Recommendations

I've received a few PMs about hooking people up with some Dubstep that I think is banging so I will use this thread to do so.

Liquid Stranger

Traveling the uncharted terrains of sound, Liquid Stranger’s creative output spans a wide range of electronic music in all of its colours and shades. Always pushing the sonic boundaries and merging genres, he consistently creates an ever-evolving blend of unique atmospheres and cutting edge grooves.

With 4 highly acclaimed full-length albums under his Liquid Stranger moniker, this multi-talented producer has established himself as the epitome of trans-national dubstep, covering everything from Latin, Asian, Eastern European and Jamaican Dancehall dubs. His first two albums, ‘The Invisible Conquest’ and ‘The Intergalactic Slapstick’ (Interchill 2007 & 2009), generated a substantial buzz with DJs and listeners alike while his next two albums, ‘The Private Riot’ and ‘Mechanoid Meltdown’

If you are really new to dubstep definitely start with him. He covers the basics of dubstep, melting tracks down and building them up.

Zed Bias

If you want atmospheric, deep and dirty dubstep you have to check this guy out. He creeps into your rooms at night and wobble rapes you. He's actually more UK Garage than dubstep but these are some of the dubstep tracks he's done that are nasty as fuck.

<-VIP version

If anyone wants to add to my contributions, PM and you will receive full credits. Keep checking for more updates.

The Gaslamp Killer

The Gaslamp Killer is a Los Angeles-based DJ whose eclectic style ranges from psychedelia and world music to dubstep and left-field hip-hop. Associated with Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder Records, he made his production debut in the late 2000s with a series of EPs. Born William Benjamin Bensussen, he originally comes from San Diego, CA, whose downtown Gaslamp District's bar scene inspired him to name himself the Gaslamp Killer in disgust for much of the patronage. As a producer, the Gaslamp Killer made his debut in the late 2000s, releasing, for instance, a split single with Free the Robots, "The Killer Robots".

Personally I really enjoy his psychedelia, if you are into it you'll love him! He doesn't dabble into dubstep as much as he could but he's well worth a listen by all means.

Coki

Dubstep Producer, DJ and MC from the UK. He's also part of Digital Mystikz and together with Mala (4) and Loefah he's running the DMZ label.

He is insanely cool, pimps out heavy set tracks with eerie wobbles and sometimes throws in hip hop elements.

<- personal favourite

Great stuff! :D I'm a picky mofo when it comes to Dubstep. The last couple songs I got are all from different artists haha. I don't wanna overload the topic or anything, so I'll just post the last one I got.

Scarlett O'Hara 06-13-2011 05:00 PM

Thanks!! So am I, I have a distinct taste. But I also want to be reasonably unbiased so people getting a wide range of types. :)

Cool vid!

jackhammer 06-13-2011 05:08 PM

Many Dubstep tracks are not available on albums and are general collaborations or remixes:

DSWubWubs 06-14-2011 08:31 PM

I'm surprised I didn't find Coki myself. Thank you for sharing. :D Here's a few of my reccomendations. (A few are remixes.)

<--- My all time favorite. :D

<--- Is in a fight with my all time favorite.

Mattscu 06-20-2011 05:59 AM

Thanks, Liquid stranger is really good.

Zed's Dead is dope, Benga and Skream have a lot of work, and Excision is ok. Bassnectar has always been hit or miss for me

Scarlett O'Hara 07-06-2011 03:51 AM

Got a new one, it's sick as!

Glebstar

Here enters Glebstar; an Amsterdam based producer/DJ who's production will stay lingering around in your head like that book you've just read, or the love of your life you've just met. Glebstar's sound is characterized by bumpy, grimey baselines, drums and the "Dirty" sound that he has developed in the past few years. His work stays versatile and ventures into the wild, unexplored parts of electronic music. Yet they stay marked by their sincere hospitality to invite any adventurer who dares to trod into new fields.
His eagerness to succeed goes hand in hand with his wish to give back. He describes his mission as an DJ/Producer as; "Providing the people with the right musical ingredients, and thereby helping them to build the perfect night." He then adds; "The real payback is playing your own track in a club, and then look at how the people loose them self."

Some darker, heavier vibes rather than the obnoxious brostep. I implore you to listen to take about 20 minutes from your day and give these a listen. If you don't want to listen to them all then just listen to Hatcha, Benton and Jakes.

Hatcha -
Featuring Benga, this is sick.

Benton -
HQ radio rip from Rinse, huge tune.

Psy:am -

Jakes -
Dark ting, all I can say is raaa, heavy track.

Mala -
You picked out Coki but neglected his Digital Mystickz partner Mala, feel the bass.

Scarlett O'Hara 07-17-2011 10:57 PM

Thanks for the sick tunes Alec, keep em' coming.

Mrd00d 07-18-2011 01:29 AM

A couple dubstep tunes with rappers I enjoy on top...

and DJ Distance makes my favorite kind of dubstep. It's walking down the street in the fog in the night and nobody else around but the streetlights dubstep. Stoned.

jackhammer 07-25-2011 07:06 PM

Time the hammer threw some tracks into the mix:

Ready for this one?

Alec 07-26-2011 06:56 PM

Not too keen on Flux or Jogo, a bit too bro-steppy for me. I prefer bass > distortion.

Excision

Excision is the alias of Jeff Abel, a dubstep DJ and music producer from British Columbia, Canada. He frequently works with fellow Canadian dubstep producers Datsik and Downlink. As one of the first dubstep producers and DJs in North America, he has played a significant role in the genre's growth in popularity, and also the development of a more aggressive approach to dubstep production. His first release was in 2007.

Excision's signature sound takes influence from the morphing basslines of drum and bass, the aggressive energy of heavy metal, and the laid back vibes of hip hop.

What can I say? This guy knows how to sex up my ears. Get To The Point had me in a spin. I love this guys mix of intensity and eerie delivery. The drops are beyond words.

Unrelenting 09-20-2011 05:55 PM

I'd love a link to some of that excision stuff

Ditto

Scarlett O'Hara 09-22-2011 07:22 PM

Cool give me a couple of days and I'll hook you up! (Just super busy)

crash_override 09-23-2011 11:08 AM

Excision is legit, been listening to him for a couple years casually. He hasn't put out anything recently that's caught my eye but I still listen to the older stuff from time to time.

Anywho, I just discovered this gem recently. Kind of rough and simple, but the tune is good and the video is interesting to say the least.

New Guy

I had never heard of this guy Dual Seize before this week but his productions are exceptional. I think he's still trying to find his sound but the dubstep part of his new track absolutely blew me away. I can't post a link because I have few posts (just joined today) but he's on youtube.
He's only 18 but I think we can expect BIG things from him in the future.

Zed's Dead aren't new but they are another favourite! (also on youtube)

Cheers :dj:

Mykonos 12-04-2011 07:04 AM

I tend to get all 'I liked it before it was mainstream' with Dubstep, but lately stuff like this has been getting to me:

Surell 12-04-2011 11:50 AM

I like a little Skrillex, especially that one with the little red riding hood girl who defeats a pedophile. What makes him brostep now? I'm confused by the distinction.

Mykonos 12-04-2011 03:25 PM

Don't know a lot of Skrillex, but this one's a tune:

Unrelenting 01-20-2012 01:14 PM

This thread isn't seeing much traffic anymore, but here's a little something

Klaypex - Lights - YouTube

has a bit more of dance music influence than most other members of the genre that I've heard so far

crash_override 01-25-2012 05:21 AM

Zeds Dead EP Adrenaline is out. Anyone heard it?

Pretty good stuff IMO.

Ok, I loved it, but minus the 'oh oh' vocals. Great wobbles.

P.s. more great recommendations to come, I just have to wait till I've got on faster internet at home. Can't do it at work obviously.

The entire album is amazing. Not one song is even mediocre, but that one stands out the most.

In the same vein as the Hank Hill, here's Kramer getting down to some dubstep:

I recently re-downloaded Skream's albums Skream! and Outside the Box, as well as all his Stella Sessions (2 hours each of him djing and talking and such)
