I don't necessarily have a problem with it if the song is really good, but I'm often left wondering:

(a) Were there production limitations?
(b) Did they not have a chance to record more material with the vocalist, thinking that the first recordings would be sufficient? Yet, when they went to put everything together, maybe it would only work a certain way from what they originally intended.
(c) Are they just being lazy by being so bloody repetitive?
How about this one? I think it wouldnt sound as good w/o vocals.

It wouldn't, no. I guess it just depends on what someone wants the instrumental to do. For me, if I like the vocals, that's usually enough. If the vocals are weak, I can listen through it if the instrumental has a good hook or is interesting in some other way.

You probably could do without any vocals on this one here...

Without... with one great exception. Karl Hyde's stream-of-consciousness lyricism for Underworld is incredibly artful and serves more as rhythmic device than anything else.

I seldom listen to any music with lyrics, but the incarnations of Underworld - from The Experimental Sound Field to Mk1, to Lemon Interupt, to Mk2 & 3, to their various solo and collaborative projects - for any of these I gladly make an exception.

I used to have no preference of w/ or w/o vocals, but I recently saw EVOL Intent, along with some local DJ's. There were 2 emcee's there, rhyming to the beat...all I have to say is, "WOW." They both had the ability to switch their pitch based on the music. It went from smooth, Rasta inspired tracks, to harder and more intense tracks.

TL;DR hiphop + dNb = love

In general without vocals. But there are some tracks that vocals are the key.
There only works when the vocals feed perfectly.

well i would say no vocals. But it depends on my mood. Usually i dont wanna hear vocals at all, just wanna feel that music groove. But other times vocals just enhance the music and bring it to a nice level.

It depends. Sometimes vocals kill a track and sometimes they make a great track amazing.

I have mostly instrumentals because really good vocal tracks can be hard to find.
