Video games go a lot farther than that.
When i was a kid I had to beg my parents for a year before they bought me a £40 copy of Sonic & Knuckles. lol. Don't even have it anymore. With the exchange rate in '94 that must have been, what, $70?

dam rite! Had to wear potato sacks and tissue-box shoes for a whole year after that godammit. good times

games have progressed so much though, it's like a free acid trip, no-one can say they're overpriced really...compared to some well-cut jeans made in a sweat shop for two cents by an emaciated Indian boy covered in gutter poo

1. I was born in Derbyshire, England in 1993 and lived there until I was 5 (still have the accent).
2. I then moved to China and lived there until I was 8 and a half.
3. I am ranked 50th in the world in the first Guitar Hero game (not as impressive as it sounds).
4. Orson Scott Card's Ender series are my favorite books.
5. I can stick my legs behind my head.
6. I have a freckle on my face so dark that it is commonly mistaken for dirt, sometimes by people that have known me my whole life.
7. My username was the first username I ever used on a forum. KH stands for Kingdom Hearts, and I joined a forum concerning said video game when I was 10. Most of the people there thought I was in my 20's until I acknowledged my age o.o
8. I am a year younger than everyone else in my grade, for the most part.
9. I love redheads, maybe it's something to do with being one myself.
10. I can run a mile in under 7 minutes, and I never work out or anything.
11. Ever since moving to TN in April 2002, Dr. Pepper has been my beverage of choice.
12. In regards to condiments and sauces, I will almost always prefer to eat the food without them.
13. I have started to love America since Barack Obama was elected.
14. I have often fantasized about matricide.
15. My brother, who I think may now be a chav, I'm not sure, was the guy who introduced me to Radiohead, Guster, and SOAD. He's living in England now, that's why I'm not sure, but he's certainly got the accent for it, he sounds like an idiot
16. I am incapable of owning a pair of earphones for more than one year without having them break.
17. After chewing a wart on it when I was 9 for about a year, the lower half of my left index finger has a permanent callus on it.
18. I find it extremely hard to go to sleep, which contributes to the fact that I have never slept on a plane, even though I've been on over twenty ten-hour or more flights.
19. I have a pair of friends who only like metalcore and country. I persistently try to break them of it, but it's impossible O_o And then they don't like half the metalcore I recommend.
20. I plan to be a video game designer when I grow up. I think I might be selling myself short, but who the f*ck cares?
21. My least favorite movie is Sleepover. Watch it. I DARE YOU.
22. On my old computer, I owned all of Dragonforce's discography.
23. I have a low tolerance for lack of sleep.
24. I only visit three forums, and one is on the verge of dying due to lack of regulars and all of the new regulars being infantile.
25. Any girl who wears pants with writing on the ass is out of my Most Wanted list.

the ONLY thing they got wrong in the review is the announcer voice. he was one of the graphic artists not a programmer haha (he sat across from me)

@khfreek - take a look at that review. it's the end result of a 6 month contract that went over by a month. the contracts were signed by people who had no concept of development, design, or technical limitations. it's not how 'all' of the industry works but if you're dealing with 3rd party stuff it's really not that uncommon. it doesn't have to be good it has to be done, if you can't handle that (i couldn't) you'll have a very hard time doing design.

7. Kingdom Hearts was the shit! Seriously, 7th grade for me was all about that game and nothing else. I think I've beaten it over 10 times. Oh nostalgia...

16. Go quality and you can't lose. I've had my same pair of Sennheisers for over two years now and have used nothing else.

I aim to be the best designer (or perhaps programmer) that I can be, so I'm going to put in as much work as I can while I'm learning.

Same here. It was the first REALLY good game I ever played, seeing as how I'd been living in China playing Tekken 3 and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1. I love the story and voice-acting SO much

If it wasn't for the disney stuff I think people would regard it as one of the best ever. The story is unbelievably good. They got a bit wacky with it in the second one though.

don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to discourage you in the least here. just trying to get you to see the side of the industry that isn't covered in gamestop promos and G4 clips.

the reality of design falls much closer to project management than either programming or art. it's definitely beneficial to have a base in both aspects though as it allows you to speak with those professionals on their level. you'll deal with far more paperwork than polygons or code as a designer.

basically if you're not to the point where a company is willing to hire you before you finish school (like the one guy a year after me that went to EA) then you're going to have to work your way up to that level. notice how many party games have come out on the wii.... someone has to make the crap some suit signed off on.
