What does your desktop say about you?

What does your desktop say about you? - 4

Even icons on each side (even though that pic is not uniform enough for me!). I certainly agree with the organised bit (generally).

Freebase Dali 01-22-2010 05:07 PM

I guess I'm 10

I have absolutely no icons on either one of my desktop screens (dual monitors), and instead, I have a dock bar (rocket dock) containing like-theme (all out of the graphite icon pack) folders for Programs, Music, Pics, Movies, all 4 of my hard drives, and folders that act as favorites for the internet, like a Musicbanter folder I just click on and it takes me here.
All that is confined in a single expandable bar on the bottom of my top monitor so I can access it even when I have Musicbanter, or porn sites (lawl), maximized on my bottom screen.

I absolutely can't stand desktop clutter. And my wallpaper is a techy-looking metallic design, mirrored on both screens.

It's ultra-minimal and ultra-efficient. Totally devoid of humor or personality. It's as though a sentient robotic being designed it.

I even HAD to get a firefox theme that matched my Windows theme (Zune theme for XP) otherwise my head would have exploded.

Weird thing is, I'm not that organized in other aspects of my life.
I always start out with very organized intentions, but after a period of time everything gets out of place and I'm too lazy to return it back to proper conditions.
But on my computer, I don't even turn my computer off at night without going through and making sure everything is where it's supposed to be.
Weird.

Dieselboy 01-22-2010 05:10 PM

Hmmm, I'm actually a combo of 8 and 10:

What does your desktop say about you? - 10

I'm the escapist in 8, and go to desktop nexus nearly every night to find a new wallpaper...usually something breathtaking or scenic. But I'm also 10 because I have 0 icons on my desktop. Even my Recycle Bin is on the toolbar.

^ I guess you posted yours while I was making mine. But yeah same thing. They say being a 10 means you're organized, but I wouldn't call myself that either. /shrug

Oh god, I would be exactly like this if I had the patience and/or know how about how to set something up like that. I have Object Dock and yet I still end up with icons on my screen:(. There's also just a bunch of stuff on my computer that I'm kind of afraid to delete but I have no idea what they do.

I guess I'm 3. I have a small-ish collection of icons on my desktop but I try to keep most of my things in folders and such.

I found that if you put a folder on your dock and call it "Temporary" or "Transit", and put in there all the loose stuff from your desktop that you don't know what to do with, it tricks you into thinking you're moving forward with a semblance of organization.
Out of sight, out of mind.

duga 01-22-2010 05:20 PM

i'm also a combo of 8 and 10...my desktop only has the recycle bin on it and everything else is accessible through the taskbar. my background is simple yet is meant to kinda relieve stress and remind me to chill.

Windows 7 kicks the **** out of XP in so many ways. Just sayin.

As for me, I'd be 3. Thing is though, Exactly where are they pulling these assertions from? I've seen pub graffiti more well referenced than this. Exactly why does my desktop say that about me? How have they determined this?

They havent. They're just making it up as they go along.

BTW, the wallpaper thing? My desktop wallpaper switches automatically every 5 minutes to a different image.

Meh... Windows 7 might be great and all, but there's absolutely no reason for me to switch from XP just yet. Until I find myself being limited by XP in what I do on a daily basis with my computer (which I don't see happening any time soon), then Windows 7 can shit gold for all I care.

#3 I guess. "The wallpaper acts to underline the humorous, irreverent approach."

I don't mind clutter though.

Oh jesus. That's horrid.

Burning Down 01-22-2010 10:09 PM

I guess this counts as a number 3, I don't know! I HATE desktop clutter! It also reveals that Zoolander is one of my favourite movies , and that the temperature here is f'n cold.

The desktop on my Macbook is pretty much the same.

gunnels 01-22-2010 10:24 PM

Zoolander FTMFW

Some of you guys need to step your widescreen game up.

Jesus Christ, Stone Birds!
How can you even manage to navigate that mess?

Then I guess its a good thing my screen is a 32" Widescreen TV.

NumberNineDream 01-23-2010 08:51 AM

That's how my desktop looks like these past few days. The labeled ones are those that are there temporarily.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...capture-26.png

...what might it say about me?

Edit:

The link wasn't opening correctly, so I changed the browser... Let's see:

Well I have an Even icons on each side desktop, though the David Lynch image was chosen for the "escapist" functions of it. I never was able to "escape" to another place, while looking at some landscape photo. "Lynch", that says so much more.

number 4, i used to have a scattered across the screen desktop, but it always took forever to find programs, so i fixed it up to be from side to side. alot of the other programs i don't use/temporary files go into Unused Programs and Miscillaneous folders. as for the picture, i change it all the time, so i can't really say much about that

but yeah, here's my desktop now.

like i said i rarely even look at my desktop, and it's gotten so bad it'd take to long to organize it all, some of you might not know this but i'm a very busy person.

Organising desktops gives me one of the greatest joys. I usually clean up my friends' desktop and Music ID3s. Maybe you can send me your PC lol.

Stone Birds 01-23-2010 11:34 AM

i'm using a home computer

I was about to say, do you really need three anti-spyware programs on your computer, then I noticed the Limewire icon and I don't know if three's enough.

For myself, I suppose I'm a three. I have my icons organized minus a few ones that I never use, but don't really feel like deleting. As far as my desktop goes, it's not really as cool as the one in the example, however I rarely go trolling for new desktop images... well occasionally I'll browse the artistic nudes section on DeviantArt in search of a new desktop image, but rarely do I ever find one that truly works.

haha i see what you mean, but really it's not too much of a problem for me. to be honest i've had more trouble with torrents than with Limewire anyway, which is why i don't use the former anyway and i use the latter if a song on an album i got through other ways isn't working properly. my programs block any pages or downloads that they detect have viruses and stuff so i'm cool with them.

I guess I'd be classed as escapist if anything. My desktop is normally less populous than this pic would suggest and I'm more pedantic about file organisation than is apparent. Most of the stuff here will migrate to stuff 'n' things (the virtual bed under which things should be shoved) until I eventually get around to sorting it.

But I only have it because it's nicer to look at than a picture of your cat.

I have the native "aurora" wallpaper that comes with new Macs, just because I think it's sexy as hell.

I have two icons on my desktop, one of them being my hard drive. I guess I'm a little OCD.

My friend recently told me that while it's cool to have no icons, the really "l33t" people always have a jumble of icons because they're constantly downloading and configuring and whatnot. Makes sense to me...

I'm constantly downloading and configuring, but I'm also constantly putting things into their proper and respective folders, so maybe I'm a lot OCD.
