Yeah people need to get over those stereotypes.

Dogs and cats all have different personalities. Some fit the stereotypes while others don't.

My neighbour's cat gave birth last week and I got to meet one of the little kitties yesterday. I am soooo in love and I even took pics :) I really wish I wasn't allergic but perhaps that can be managed... Hmmmm.....

I love all animals, but I'm definitely a cat person. I've noticed minor behavioral differences between "dog people" and "cat people" but as with any generalization, they're not ultimately definitive of one group or the other.

HOWEVER

"Dog people" have always struck me as energetic, extroverted, determined, successful, optimistic, and sometimes even loud. But I've also known some who are sensitive, quiet, loving, selfless, dependent, introverted, etc.

"Cat people" such as myself tend to be shy, skeptical, realistic, withdrawn, private, introverted. But a close friend of ours (Ki and myself) is one of the loudest (yet kindest), most outspoken, hard-driving, and almost obnoxious people I've ever met - and his cat is his best friend. So I don't know.

Animals are just awesome. And cute. And I love them so, so much.

Well the stereotypes are there for a reason, but in general I haven't noticed different behavior between cat people and dog people.

I do know a really bat**** crazy cat lady, though.

FRED HALE SR. 10-18-2013 04:00 PM

Cat peoples houses tend to smell like pee. Only significant difference.

Does she have a ton of cats that she isn't capable of taking care of? Those people aren't decidedly awful but they really boil my blood.

Also I see you're from Minnesota. I lived in the northwest for most of my life.

Shows what you know. My mother was never married. Which is why I'm such a bastard.

Hey, I thought it was funny.

Siamese cats are cats for dog people.

Thelonious Monkey 03-17-2017 10:01 AM

DwnWthVwls 03-17-2017 10:27 AM

I thought you loved monkeys? :(

Key 03-17-2017 10:45 AM

Cats are infinitely times better than dogs, and dogs are pretty awesome.

4 realz tho I hate monkeys

Frownland 03-17-2017 10:58 AM

Cats are *******s so there tends to be a lot of headbutting and power plays between me and them. Plus I'm allergic. Dogs are like friendly drunks who only occasionally border on annoying.

The Batlord 03-17-2017 11:08 AM

Cats being dickbags are hilarious though. They just have an air of not giving a **** after they've scratched at the door to be let in so they can use the bathroom even though they were just outside, after which they scratch at the door to be let out.

I am a cat person through and through-- I love how distinct their personalities are and their unpredictability-- though I love dogs equally.

I always find it hilarious when someone comments that cats are 'aloof' or independent, because every cat I have owned/befriended has been a whiny codependent baby (and only aloof perhaps 30% of the time). Actually I've only technically had five cats in my lifetime, but I've had many tomcat friends who used to live in my neighborhood who I named Charlie, Mr. Bennett and Timmy. (Charlie was a noisy fluffball who always followed me on my walks, Mr Bennett was white, old and always covered in dirt, and Timmy was fluffy and black, had bright golden eyes and had a tiny, raspy squeak of a meow. I think Timmy was the oldest-- the grandpa kitty. Pretty sure Charlie was his offspring. Once I spent christmas alone with Mr. Bennett; we watched a movie and it was a really pitiful sight, probably.)

I still miss my cat Henry horribly-- my mother gave him away several years ago after I moved to Louisiana without telling me. He was grey and had green eyes and was the #1 best kitty in the world. He liked to play fetch, and when you threw the mouse thingy he'd jump REALLY high in the air (oftentimes doing this sort of corkscrew-backflip) after it.
And my ex had three cats-- or, well, his mother did-- Skittles, Loki and Stevie. I miss them terribly as well. Stevie required that you let him lay directly on top of your chest while he kneaded you painfully roughly four times a day (he would whine otherwise.)

I don't have any cats at the moment, but I do want a dog-- I L O V E big giant dogs, and for whatever reason I also really love chihuahua+terrier mixes and chihuahua+cattle dog mixes. To torture myself, I regularly browse Petfinder.com and bookmark all the doggies I want. Ideally I'd adopt an elderly one. I previously couldn't bring myself to get a dog because I never quite got over Jack (my wolf/german shepherd mix who adopted me when I was 12) getting hit by a car.

OK anyway I am sure that was riveting information for all of you!!!

Nah, I've had many cats over the years and some of them really are like that. Mostly the black ones for whatever reason (black cats are also nuts). They seem to be the most skittish, and even when they like you they tend to only actively approach you occasionally.

Chiomara 03-18-2017 03:25 PM

Everyone N E E D S to watch this; it's a cat being lulled to sleep by his piano-playing human.

Oh, well yes this is definitely true of the skittish ones at least-- all the black cats I've met have been mischievous, skittish buttheads but I love them anyway. Calicos too.

I shared that on FB like a week ago.

My black cat is pretty chill. He will whine every now and then but I just have to call his name and snap my fingers and he will come to me to get pet. I have my cats trained pretty well for the most part. I don't have to yell at them if I catch them on the table. Just a snap of my fingers and point down and they know to get off the table.

Trollheart 03-18-2017 03:58 PM

It's hard to train cats, but if they want to do something and coincidentally you want them to do it too, then cool. I only have to rattle their bowls on Wednesdays and Fridays, fish nights, and they're all there waiting. When I'm reading for Karen I pat the armchair beside me, say "Eddie! Story time!" and he'll appear, charging down the stairs or in from the hall, to settle beside me, nuzzle his head off my knee, and sit there listening to me read. And if I sit any other time, it's open season as they all three come looking to be petted.
