Cat People VS Dog People

Do you think there is really any behavioral differences between cat people and dog people?

Burning Down 07-06-2013 05:36 PM

I'm neither. What does that say? haha

memycelfandeye 07-07-2013 03:15 AM

I love both species and I don't see a difference in those who choose one or the other.

Nurse Duckett 07-07-2013 03:25 AM

How could i not post this.

:)

Engine 07-07-2013 05:33 AM

Every person I've ever met who identifies as one or the other doesn't know shit about the animal that they claim to dislike aside from their pre-conceived notions, prejudices, and isolated experiences.

Dog People and/or Cat People = People who don't actually love animals. They only have love for pets that have happened to make them feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Goofle 07-07-2013 05:35 AM

Are people...

Nah, let's not go there.

FETCHER. 07-07-2013 06:34 AM

I prefer dogs but I love cats too :), I just love animals in general :).

Cuthbert 07-07-2013 07:02 AM

Owned both a dog and a cat, don't think I'd own a dog again. I like the independence cats have. Dogs are easier to boss around though.

If I had to own a dog, it'd be either a greyhound, a lab or a staff.

FETCHER. 07-07-2013 10:00 AM

I like the fact that I'm my dogs master. It makes me feel like we have a really strong bond, something I've never had with any other animal.

I do like cats though but I've always said I will be the crazy dog lady when I'm older haha.

Paedantic Basterd 07-07-2013 10:05 AM

I think cats have qualities inherently more appealing to some types of people than others. I like dogs, but I don't love them and I've never had one. I will say that they strike me as very needy companions. That's totally fine, it translates into loyalty for many people, but I like the aloofness of the cat. I like their independence, and the fact that they take a little effort for so much reward.

Phantom Limb 07-07-2013 10:17 AM

I love both dogs and cats as well as all other animals. Animals are pure, they act solely on instincts and emotions. There are no evil animals.

I feel like with the independence thing it just varies between breeds. I don't feel it's necessarily a dog/cat quality. Sure more cat breeds tend to be on the independent side but I've encountered some needy cats that are just downright annoying because I didn't expect them to be that way.

Personally, I like dogs and cats but I do tend to lean more towards cats. The next dog that I'd like to get is a Scottish Terrier. I've always wanted one of them. I've had my fair share of big dogs and I'm over them for the most part.

I also like the way cats show their affections. A little eye blink here, a head bonk there, or rub against you and plonk themselves in your lap.

CanwllCorfe 07-07-2013 01:28 PM

There's this.

Paedantic Basterd 07-07-2013 01:31 PM

I want to make the dog in the suit my next avatar.

Scarlett O'Hara 07-07-2013 02:52 PM

I love kitties!! People have probably noticed that but I'm really obsessed with them. Engine I disagree that people who specify them being a dog or cat person makes them someone who doesn't like animals. For my whole life I've identified with cats, I grew up with them and plan on owning many of them when I settle down in Christchurch next year.

Goofle 07-07-2013 03:20 PM

I thought we were talking about people who dress up like one or the other in their spare time.

Imitation is the best form of flattery  however do be careful bc I have had a few (not many) anxiety attacks caring for and juggling multiple cats over the years. They can be a lot of work for someone who grooms them daily. With six cats, my day is all about them, which I don't mind and doesn't seem like you would either.

Astronomer 07-07-2013 06:52 PM

I'm an animal lover and I love both cats and dogs, however, I am admittedly more a dog person mainly because I'm allergic to cats. I also find that dogs suit my lifestyle more, i.e. I go jogging with them, take them to the beach, etc.

Janszoon 07-07-2013 08:44 PM

I'm more of a cat person. And it definitely shows in my personality since I scratch the furniture and shit in a box full of gravel.

CrazyVegn 07-07-2013 08:46 PM

I think I see a pattern with people who have both cat(s) and dog(s) as being generous. Can anyone confirm?

Necromancer 07-07-2013 08:55 PM

concerning old people maybe.

Geez whiz, why can't someone have a favorite without being thrown under the bus as an animal hater?

I kinda agree with you though if you like one it's kinda silly to trash talk the other animal. I like cats more but it doesn't mean I hate dogs. tbh I do not fully identify with the official "Cat People", who own a dozen cats etc. Dogs like me more than cats like me, still that doesn't change my opinion about them. Sounds kinds harsh, sorry dog. It's just that I find cats to be cools and laid back, (except for the occasional scare out of their wits moments) and funny, and resourceful, no offense dog... cats are the cat's pajamas.

I love Janszoon's funny moments.

I only criticized people who ID themselves as a Cat Person or a Dog Person. People who do that usually love one and hate the other for stupid reasons.

Obviously, all personal animal preferences are totally normal and fine.

Newkie 07-09-2013 04:29 AM

I have a dog so I prefer dogs...but uh. No, no difference at all from what I can tell..

Burning Down 07-09-2013 05:15 AM

I'd love to have a cat, sadly I'm badly allergic to them and I get asthma around then. And no, don't suggest getting one of those hairless cats because they're just ugly. They look like aliens.

The first thing that came into my head was one of those freaks. Ugly true, but I feel bad for them.

Cuthbert 07-09-2013 07:38 AM

I quite like Sphynx cats tbh, they're quite cute. They do look like aliens though.

djchameleon 07-09-2013 07:40 AM

I like them too and find them super cute and not ugly at all. I mean I see why others would think so but I might own one in the future.

Then I won't have to use those sticky rollers anymore! Also screw shedding season!

Shedding season is now right?

My cat's fur gets all over the place, it's doing my head in.

yeah pretty much, the time leading up the summer and majority of the summer.

I just got one of those de-shedding brushes a few weeks back but even when I dedicate time to keep brushing them. I'm still having to deal with fur getting all over the place. It's just not as bad.

butthead aka 216 07-09-2013 02:49 PM

well im alergic to cats and i love dogs but it seems like recently ive become allergic to them too but to a lesser degree than cats :( I have had many dogs over my life and they are just awesome in every way. They are very loyal and i love taking the dogs ive had out in the woods or on walks or playing catch/fetch with frisbees and tennis balls. it seems like with cats you cant do some of that stuff.

djchameleon 07-09-2013 04:05 PM

I used to play fetch with one of my cats but with little pieces of paper balled up. And you can most certainly talk to your cats.

Some people go as far as to leash up their cats and take them on walks but yeah I stop sort of that. That's crazy cat lady territory.

You should get a hairless cat and get it tattooed. The purpose of the tattoo is to distract you from how ugly that cat is.

CrazyVegn 07-10-2013 07:03 PM

^That is abuse...

djchameleon 07-10-2013 07:15 PM

It's probably not even a real tattoo and just something spray painted on.

If that's real I'm not impressed.
