It is American though (see there's my hint)
That, I have to say, is a **** hint. The hint should be something that will point you towards the song but something you can't or wouldn't think to ask. Like, if it had been "Coal Miner's Daughter", which it isn't, hint could be "takes place underground" or something. Give us a chance.

Okay, back in the real world. Let's see... Patsy Cline?
No

Hint. Frown came very close to the answer chronologically speaking.

Okay let's see if we can wrap this up. It's a country-western song by an American female artist in 1968 but it isn't Stand By Your Man.

Two hints: 1) It was basically from a one hit wonder and...
2) A TV movie was made based on the song.

Nope. Convoy was from 1976 and the singer was male (unless he had a sex change I don't know about).

New hint: The singer shares a last name with a certain former Fox News political pundit.

Plankton wins . See, that's how you do it; lay back while everyone else asks questions and then come up with the answer.

The TV movie was a decade later starring Barbara Eden. Of course it's horrible as all movies that try to stretch out a song are.

Okay, Plankton, so you're up (and you can come back, Trolls ).

I remember both. The song was pretty horrid, but the movie ruined my image of Genie forever.

I have my song, it's 20th century, which should narrow things down a bit for ya's.
