Cryptically-disguised song lyrics

Yeah, me again. Shut up. I've rewritten the lyrics of famous songs; see if you can get them. They're ones everyone should know.

Note: Hosting previous rounds here doesn't work now as the MCC (Max Character Count) has been exceeded by round 8, so I'll just post the link to the current round. Sorry.

Well there was never any doubt you'd get that one, was there? Any of the others? Should be easy if you think about it.

Number 3: A Day in the Life- Beatles (The Paul McCartney middle section)

Trollheart 01-07-2023 01:15 PM

Absolutely not. Far more well-known.

You might even say a one-hit wonder, perhaps.

Song 6

Are there any occupants? Merely tilt your head in agreement if my voice reaches your ears
Is this place occupied?
Approach, my information is that you are depressed
I can lessen your aches, allow you to stand up again.
Take it easy, before anything I will require some data
Merely some generic details
Are you able to indicate where you have pain?
"Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd?

Song 2

Were I to depart from you is it possible I would remain in your memory?
For I have to make many journeys and there are so many sights I have to experience.
Should I remain here things would have to change
As I have a certain type of liberty I must express
And that is not something you can alter.
"Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd?

Yeah you got it. Surprised it took everyone so long.

Trollheart 01-09-2023 02:01 PM

Okay let's have a new set. I should point out, for clarity's sake, these are ALL opening lines from the songs.

Song 1

I observe an incorrect satellite ascending
I foresee peril approaching
I note fissures in the ground and electrical discharge in the sky
I foretell a difficult period ahead from this morning.
Refrain from visiting when it gets dark
It's likely to kill you
An evil planet ascends.

Answered: "Bad Moon Rising" by Creedence Clearwater Revival

Song 2

Urban ladies apparently discover rapidly the method of effecting entrance by means of curving the lips
A wealthy, aged husband and she will have no need to care
She will wear lace and be the belle of the ball
As darkness falls a large residence seems too empty
I suppose each mode of shelter costs something
And it causes her pain inside to consider that her affection is but afforded to a man whose palms are not warm.
And therefore she advises him she must leave until the early morning
To provide succour to a companion who is depressed
He, however, is cognisant of her destination as she departs:
She goes towards the area of the city where they do not play fair.

Answered: "Lyin' Eyes" by The Eagles

Song 3

Not awake when I penned this, pardon me if it should wander
But when I arose I was sure the Rapture had arrived.
The firmament was a mixture of blue and red, crowds rushing here and there
Attempting to evade the devastation, however I was not concerned.

Answered: "1999" by Prince

Song 4

Rouse yourself, Margaret! I believe I must speak with you.
For it is after August and I ought to be returning to class.
I am aware I make you laugh, however I believe you are manipulating me
Oh Margaret! I attempted the best I could.
You enticed me from my domicile as you preferred to have company
You took, without permission, the organ which keeps me alive, and it's this which really upsets me.

Answered: "Maggie May" by Rod Stewart

Song 5

I say, younger sibling! What has transpired?
I say, younger sibling! Identify that person which is the sole party.
I say, younger sibling! What has transpired?
I say, younger sibling! Identify that person which is the sole party.
I say, younger sibling!
Double-barrelled weapon!
It's a pleasant day to recommence.
It's a pleasant day for a pure marriage.

Answered: "White Wedding" by Billy Idol

Song 6

I recall for all my existence very cold precipitation
Male shades, a countenance at the pane, sobbing after dark
Dark becomes light and then morning, merely a separate span of 24 hours
Joyous crowds traverse my path
Staring in their gaze I observe something remembered
And fail to understand how pleasant things were with you.

All correct: either you guys are getting better at this or I'm making them too easy.

Trollheart 01-09-2023 06:52 PM

So we go again.

Song 1

During a journey across mountains in the south of Ireland
I chanced upon a certain member of the forces of law and order
And he was totalling up his cash.
My initial reaction was to produce one weapon, then the other
And demand of him to surrender his riches to me
Or he could go to Hell.

Answer: "Whiskey in the Jar" by Thin Lizzy

Song 2

I do not stand but I anticipate a forthcoming event
Is it possible that a heavenly messenger is thinking about my destiny?
And are we aware of the destination of affection as we age?
Because it has been made known to me that rescue allows them to extend their flying appendages
Therefore as I lie awake contemplating many things and I believe affection to have passed on
On the contrary, I am being amorous with spiritual beings.

Answer: "Angels" by Robbie Williams

Song 3

I am puzzled by this, the contest begins
In respect of the normal payment as well as gratuities.
Secret data, is in a journal
This case belongs to me, it is not for public consumption.

Answer: "Private Investigations" by Dire Straits

Song 4

Merely a young lady from a minor city, existing in a world without friends
She boarded a train at the witching hour, not caring for her destination.
Only a young urban lad, brought up in the state of Michigan
He also boarded a train at the witching hour, similarly unconcerned as to where it would take him.

Answer: "Don't Stop Believin'" By Journey

Song 5

Contemplate the absence of Paradise, it isn't so hard once you have a go
No dark realm underground while nothing above but the firmament.
Contemplate everyone existing for this day.

Answer: "Imagine" by John Lennon

Song 6

It's slightly amusing, my inner emotions
Not being someone who is very good at concealment
I'm quite poor but if I was rich I would purchase a large domicile in which we could co-habit.

(Yeah, I know: I'm strugglin' here now)

Answer: "Your Song" by Elton John

Spoiler for Songs 3, 5 and 6:
Song 3: that Dire Straits one, Private Investigation?
Song 5: Imagine
Song 6: Early Elton John; Your Song, I think

I thought song #1 was going to be Arthur McBride, but it's not a fit after all. Still, it was a great excuse to listen to this one more time:-

Thanks from me too, TH - this is a fun (and challenging!) game. :)
Funny - when I overthink the encrypted lyrics I get nowhere, but when I relax a bit sometimes the answer comes to mind.

Round 4

Song 1

Surely there is an exit from here, the fool asked the robber.
I don't understand what's going on and can gain no surcease.
Tycoons imbime the fruit of the vine which is mine.
Farmers till my fields;
Not one person will be straight with me
Of afford me his sworn oath.

Answer: "All Along the Watchtower" by Bob Dylan

Song 2

I can't say recently that I've seen your eyes anything but open on the occasions when I show affection to you,
Nor is there any soft feeling when I touch your hand.
You endeavour to conceal it but I am very much aware
You have misplaced that emotion of affection
Oh that emotion of affection
You have misplaced that emotion of affection
It is no more.

Answer: "You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling" by The Righteous Brothers

Song 3

I have made my way to the summit of the tallest peaks
I have rushed through meadows
For the sole purpose of being in your company
For the sole purpose of being in your company.
I have hurried myself, I have gone on my knees;
I have climbed the ramparts that surround this urban centre of population
For the sole purpose of being in your company
For the sole purpose of being in your company.
Yet I remain unable to locate that for which it is I seek.

Answer: "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" by U2

Song 4

Existence is not explainable
We all must face it on our own
The sound of my appelation comes to me
And reminds me of the place I live.

When you address me it's similar to a small invocation
I take a submissive posture and want to bring you to where I am
After 23:59 I am able to experience your strength
Identical to a plea to the heavens you are aware I will convey you to that place.

Song 5

Prior to Saturday morning with inadequate illumination
Searching for a destination
Where the melodies you prefer are played
Becoming accustomed to it
You arrive to search for a monarch
Who could be anyone; the darkness has yet to age and the sounds are soaring
And you are of a mind to bust some moves
And when the opportunity presents itself...

Song 6

At a time when you feel tired and not at all large
When you want to cry
I will ensure your eyes are not wet.
I am your ally through bad situations,
When companions are difficult to come by;
Similar to a structure which crosses problematic liquid
I shall prostrate myself.
