I never found anything special in his music. He's got a great voice and his cover of Hallelujah was lovely but I've never felt anything for anything else. I have been told that I 'don't know a thing about music' because I'm not a fan but I'd rather not pretend...

i didn't get into his stuff untill i really listened it through thoroughly after liking only a couple songs. give it time and it might grow on you, at which point you'll most likely become borderline obsessed. do you like many other solo-type artists? try out Rufus Wainwright if u haven't already, perhaps you'll gain an appreciation for Buckley thru him...or maybe he's just not drum machine & synth enough for ya :P

I've never been a fan of the 'if you like one male solo artist you'll definitely love this one eventually' argument. I tend to like and dislike music instantly and I disliked everything of his (except for his cover of Hallelujah). When I was younger I thought that people making posts like yours knew some sort of objective truth that I hadn't yet learnt so I went through all of his albums (and U2's and various others) to search for the thing I was missing.

I wasn't missing anything. I just didn't like what I heard.

I don't understand why that's an unacceptable answer.

that's a pretty rash statement, does music never grow on you? i wasn't instantly wow'ed by jeff buckley when i first heard his songs because they're not written for that purpose. in my experience the best music takes time to grow on me and then it lasts almost forever.

and ya, when i was younger i too thought that people with your new-wave tastes knew some objective truth as well, but ya, apparently i was way off.

What is this 'new wave' taste that you're talking about? I'm afraid I have no idea who you are and so I can't remember discussing my taste in music with you.

Music very rarely grows on me. If a song is amazing I will love it straight away.
