Default Before They Were Famous (or very famous)

Chelsea - Hard Rock

Early 70's band fearing a pre-Kiss Peter Criss on drums. Although it's debatable whether this song qualifies as "hard rock", I prefer it to most of what I've heard from Kiss.

Not to be confused with the Chelsea band that formed in Britian in 1976.

The Teddy Bears - To Know Him Is To Love Him

Before he became a well known producer, record label owner, and, sadly, convicted murderer, Phil Spector was a member of The Teddy Bears. He wrote this song, the group's one big hit, and played guitar in the group. Later on, Spector played the guitar solo on The Drifters' hit "On Broadway."

Moody Blues - Lose Your Money (But Don't Lose Your Mind)

This hard edged, original R&B number is a world away from the Moody Blues who sold gazillons of records several years later. It was the b-side from their very first record, a 45 releases in the UK in September 1964. The a-side was a cover of Steal Your Heart Away. Check out Ray Thomas on the harmonica.

"Lose your money/but don't lose your mind/lose your woman/but don't fool with mine"

Hey, what a neat thread idea!

I'll have to do a little research. I love surprise musicians.

Offhand though maybe not everyone knows Dio was in The Prophets, and Lemmy was in Hawkwind. They probably do though

I knew Lemmy was in Hawkwind. I didn't know about Dio'd Prophets tenure but then again, I haven't followed his career very closely.

Long before The Yardbirds, session work, Led Zep, or any of the rest ot it, a very young Jimmy Page appeared on British TV with a skiffle group:

I bought both of the K.U.K.L. albums on vinyl 40+ years ago. Haven't listened to either of them in many years but they're still in my record collection.

Damn that's so tight. It was after you heard the Sugarcubes, right? And you lived in the UK back then? Somehow it's difficult for me to imagine this thing crossing the Atlantic.

It was indeed after I heard the Sugarcubes. I went to look for their debut album and found both of the K.U.K.L. albums in the assigned Sugarcubes slot, so I bought both of them instead of the Sugarcubes LP. I figured I could easily pick up that album later but if I didn't grab the K.U.K.L. LP's, I might never see them again since they were much more obscure.

I actually got them at Newbury Comics in Boston, of all places, so they did make it across the pond. They always had an impressive selection of lesser-known artists in stock. I found a lot of singles, EP's, and LP's through them that I never would've been able to find in most other record shops at that time.
