I am in no means racist, theere are some great black groups/artists from the past that I love immensely, and jazz would be nothing without blacks. When you look at rock, pop, and county they have all 3 been around much longer than rap, hence me saying it was a newer genre. Next point, Audioslave has not been around 15-20 years. Soundgarden started 20 years ago, Rage not as long ago but close, but those 2 bands are not Audioslave now are they? I would say they are quite a new band, they have only released 2 albums, barely, and I think they are a rockin good band compared to everything else out there. I'm sorry I like them. Modest mouse is in no way influenced by blues rock or Zeppelin for that matter, I just think they have a neat unique sound, and really good lyrics and concepts that you just don't find in most modern bands. It's not that I don't listen to modern music, I have to listen to the new stuff all the time at work, and even outside of that my own girlfriend is a huge fan of the Killers of all groups, so I am more than familiar with modern music, I just happen to not like it much at all. And off topic I know but if I hear wake me up before september ends again, I am going to freak out. It really isnt a horrible song compared to other stuff out there IMO, but the problem is that when a decent song comes out nowadays, everyone goes, oooohhh there's an opportunity to make some $$$ lets play the freakin **** outta it until everyone's ears bleed until the next hit song comes out, then everyone can sort of forget about that song except for maybe the real fans of the band; *cough* audioslave's be yourself *cough*
Audioslave , The Killers , Modest Mouse & Green Day?

Yeah I can see you`ve been looking really hard for new music

Yeah I should have listed about 500 bands so you could tear me down for something else. The first rap record was released in 79 by grandmaster flash, so it hasn't been around for ages. You could maybe say that about classical music, or jazz, but 27 years does not count as ages to me. But I must be condemded becuase I haven't jumped on the modern music bandwagon with the rest of you, therefore I am not entitled to my own musical tastes or preferences.

gah i agree with kashmir86 to some extent i suppose.
i think music lacks now in originality, maybe because there's no new styles left undiscovered, or atleast no good ones. modern music just isnt as inspiring as the music back a couple of decades ago. i think it's evolving in some cases, there are a fair few good bands coming out of nowhere, i personally thought the darkness were genious although maybe thats asking for my head to be bit off, they're a band you love to hate now apparently. its just there's so much modern music it just leaves room for a load of crap, the 'clogs in the ****ter' as pointed out to us by mullet man. god where did that guy go? he was ****ing great. i just think a large majority of modern music has taken a turn for the worst and its so much more about image now as apose to the music. i blame mtv. also you've got things like emo, i mean its not exactly the greatest genre someone could have come up with. and out of metal recently pops a display of droning cheese metal, i've got nothing against screaming vocals when theres talent behind the guys voice but tuning your guitarist to drop c playing open notes whilst having the drummer wank around the kit just isn't music. no matter how much you wanna pretend im being old fassioned, there's alot of metali love but there's a WHOLE load of crap being dished out. i don't really think we should have expectations for modern music in which we compare modern bands to bands like led zepplin. And i think modern musics gotta pull through soon, cause i've had enough of all the crap you get on sky.

Granted, the first rap record was not released until 79, but Rap music was around a long time before then. Look it up, there's a record called 'a message to the people' or something like that. Exactly the same time as the Black Rights came about.

im not trying to say theres no decent music, i just dont like having to look too hard to find it. i'd rather be able to switch on the tv and find something decent on there but instead i've got bollocks reality tv shows and stuff like pimp my ride spamming up the music channels.

^^Same here, apart from the MTV bit. That's the major music channel, so when you want to watch Music TV you can't avoid it really.

Music is a recorded medium , you don`t need to look on TV for it.

There are thousands of internet radio sites playing all sorts of music , there are sites like allmusic.com where if you type in the name of a band it`ll give you a big long list of bands that influenced that band & bands that were influenced by the band you looked up as well as artists who might appeal to you.

With the internet around there is no excuse for not being able to look
