The reason I think Rap sucks is becuase it is mostly the same subjects in every song, there is rarely a song that has real meaningful lyrics, mostly just random lines that rhyme with each other discussing A) rims/cars B)bitches/hoes, C) drugs. Rap is also responsible for a lot of violence and death in society, not only the rappers themselves but others that look up to them and gangs and such. Its all part of a lifestyle, one that is not healthy for our society. Sure the music I like went hand in hand with drug use, but how does toking up and listening to ramble on compare to imitating what eminem sings about killing his mother and pissing on her grave, that was unheard of in the days of classic rock. Go on about how classic rock sucks now please.

And I think you`ll find rap has it`s roots in soul & funk.
And why shouldn`t they use synths & drum machines? Music is about making a sound with what you have , it doesn`t have to be bass , guitar & drums.

BTW loads of classic rock bands used synths so shut the f*ck up.

You missed the point. Go to a modern rap concert, you will see 10-30 people sitting behind computers, that is becuase without them there would be no beats for the rappers to rap over. Your right it doesn't have to be bass guitar and drums, it can be just a man playing a piano like beethoven, but I think its so cheesy to rely on essentially computers to essentially be the band. I would like to hear a rap instrumental, wouldn't that be lame

There are tons of rappers who still play music with instruments It's obvious that you've never been to a modern rap concert, or even seen a picture of one. Most rappers use either DJs, entire fucking bands (yes, with ACTUAL INSTRUMENTS!!!), or both.

Accapella Instrumentals is pretty talented stuff, I have heard a few, where They mock sounds of instruments with their voice, extremely talented stuff, way harder than sitting behind a computer playing with sound effects

Also, I don't understand how people can only like certain genres. I judge music on how it makes me feel no matter what genre. Although my music collection is dominated by pop (risky statement to make in this forum

) it is a varied collection of what works for me at the time.

To those who are attacking certain genres, open your minds and stop generalising. Take music for what it is and how it makes you feel, instead of worrying about what genre it should/shouldn't fit into and who influenced the band.

New Rap is to rap music, what new country (ala Keith Urban, Rascal Flats) is to country music.
It isnt rap in its purest form.
Though this can be refuted for there are some rappers today who have just as much of an impact on music.
You say that rap songs have no meaningful lyrics.
That is bullsh*t.
Listen to "One Mic" by Nas, listen to " I Can" by Nas, both of those songs have meanings and excellent ones at that.
And they are both "semi-new"
Eminem is also one of the rappers that is keeping rap alive.
DMX is an excellent rapper and Common still drops a single every now and then.
You pose the most sterotypical argument against rap

Rap music has just as much of an impact on music as a whole as classic rock, punk, and any other genre you can think of.

and thats my point to.. i tried listening to rap. cause my bothers did (still do) and most of my friends love rap.. but i love music because of lyrics and how it makes me feel.. where most rap songs kind of come off as the same thing to me.. (i mean there are really good rap songs out there) but TO ME! for the most part there aren't.and you can call me closed minded or whatever, but i'd much rather go to math class and fall asleep cause that would be much more enjoyable then listening to rap no adays.. RDMC was much better i don't like them much either but man look what rap has come to.. bang bang i'll shoot you and get a murder rap.. oooooo reall cool snoop dogg haha..
