The Flying Burrito Brothers - Hot Burrito #1 (though #2 is also killer).

Cash's cover of "Hurt" is always brought up, but "I See a Darkness" is the one that gets to me.

Some good ones there bsmix esp. Mad World and Tears in Heaven. One of my own — Billie Holiday — Gloomy Sunday. The saddest song I have ever heard personally.

Diamanda Galas does a great Gloomy Sunday. I don't care for the standard adaptation of the lyrics ("Dreaming, I was only dreaming" - cop-out).

Pink Floyd's When the Tigers Broke Free gave me those chills you get when something is really deep. Its not so much a sad song as it is...emotional.
