People call them prog because they use all the cliches of prog, and do the same things that have been done in the 70s and 80s, but with more technical ability on their instruments, and a bit (by a bit i mean a lot) more wanking...Because DT employ prog rock cliches unlike bands such as Radiohead, they are considered prog and Radiohead are not...Thats the thing, people try and put limits on progressive rock, a genre that should have NO limits.

But im your more progressive progressive rock fan. ;)

I really like Rush, but I don't think DT sound like them.

Also there's no way that they're "wanky musicians." All the DT members are really talented.

Join DDD...aka DigitalDreamDoor.com...I'd say they wank a good deal...I have no problem with long and technical instrumentals (being a ELP and Yes fan) but DT just dont do anything to grab my attention, amazing musicians they all are, but it makes no difference to me, they have no ballance, every prog band needs a ballance...I say Petrucci wanks a good deal, i have heard him live several times, he would overuse pinch harmonics, and he would sound like a dog that got run over by a truck.

Mind blowing technical chops dosent always produce good music, just look at Cooley and Batio.

Long solos
high pitched vocals
album imagery
even longer solos
awful awful song titles & lyrics
and the usual drums , guitar , bass , keyboard set up that adds nothing remotly new.


I bet you`ll never see a DT album with beats & samples , or influences from other genres , or electronica , or anything like that.Radiohead do thats why people like boo boo (i`m assuming here) & myself consider them progressive. Because they try to do original things.

I think Radiohead are very progressive when they want to be...They are not always progressive, but more progressive than some bands people consider progressive, anyway.

Yeah, I doubt DT would be influenced by electronica, but in my opinion, that's a good thing. lol

I definitely consider Radiohead to be a progressive band, and I agree that they are original. I just don't like them as much as DT.
