10 years old

Alright my little brother just turned 10 years old, and his friends are interested in music as there a year or two older. He doesn't listen to music, he doesn't know of any singers aside from Rex Goudie (newfoundlands singer  he's crap) anyways so one of his friends told him to listen to 'Trapt' so i'm getting him two of there albums. My question is (and the point of this thread is) can any of you tell me bands to get him into? and what should he be listening to?

bungalow 05-24-2006 02:57 PM

Let his listen to what he wants to listen to. What kinda question is that?

Stone Magnet 05-24-2006 02:58 PM

Let him listen to Trapt...

By the time he's 13...he'll be listening to Metallica and Anthrax.

ArtistInTheAmbulance 05-24-2006 02:59 PM

sppsh, at 10, he wont care too much anyway.
my 10 year old brothers the same, bar queen & the odd nirvana song, he's barely interested.
just leave him be, he'll get advised stuff by his friends & if he suddenly develops a passion for music, just let him listen in to anything of yours. he'll find his own way.

did you read what i had said? His friends are into music, he is not but he wants to get into it.. hense me making this thread for him to find music.

swim 05-24-2006 03:00 PM

Get him
Chevelle- Point #1
Queens of the Stone Age- Songs For the Deaf
Metallica- the black album [s/t]
Rage Against the Machine- [s/t] and The Battle of Los Angles

all good albums kinda simple but leads to good music

sleepy jack 05-24-2006 03:03 PM

I think you should just give him access to your own albums and let him do whatever. My brother tried to force-feed me stuff and alls it did was piss me off and get me to dislike a band I may have liked.

Yeah. Let him listen to whatever he wants to.
It isn't that hard to find music. It's not like some f*cking invisible secret agent. Its pretty out there and easy to find :usehead:
He won't like something you force him to listen to.

swim 05-24-2006 03:05 PM

Well don't force feed be like try this, I wouldn't buy albums just download crap. And, yea, share your stuff, because I use to steal my brother's stuff all the time.

well i was here sitting at the computer with him playing him a song or two from a few Alt rock bands.. and metal bands.. cause well he seems to like trapt so i was working around it. He said he won't listen to anything poppy cause thats what girls listen to. So he doens't like any of stuff, cause he thinks even Iron maiden and Judas Priest, Bush,etc... are pop bands cause i'm a girl. thats why i need everyones help.. cause if he see's its not stuff i'll listen to then he'll love it for sure.

blackTshirt 05-24-2006 03:07 PM

does he also make threads about trying to get his sister into liking english?

bungalow 05-24-2006 03:09 PM

on the computer the only thing he cares to know about is msn, i tried showing him how to use torrent sites but he just wants someone else to do it for him. I would never force feed him music, i also hate things like that.

sleepy jack 05-24-2006 03:10 PM

If he likes trapt, heres a few bands. I won't list albums for most of them 'cause I aint big into the bands to know which are good and which aren't.

Papa Roach (there most recent stuff, the one with getting away with murder is similar to trapt)
Chevelle
Shinedown
Staind
Seether

You could try some Disturbed, Atreyu (suicide notes & butterfly kisses) and KoRn too.

right-track 05-24-2006 03:11 PM

Northern Soul.

explosions-in-my-pants 05-24-2006 03:14 PM

Oh i should point out he's not aloud to listen to anything Rap. Don't ask why cause its my parents wishs, which means chances are he'll love it most when he's older.

What`s with all the flaming ALL the time? It was a perfectly good question , when I was that age I relied on people older than myself to show me some good music.

To answer the question at 9/10 years old I would say anything hard , loud or fast. When I was that age I was given stuff like Sex Pistols , Buzz****s , The Damned , AC/DC , Judas Priest , Sabbath and Maiden. If he hates rap then punk & metal is the obvious way to go.

bungalow 05-24-2006 08:00 PM

Please tell me how that was flaming.

Raine 05-24-2006 08:10 PM

. . .
I don't know what kind of music your brother prefers to listen to

but you can't go wrong with the Beatles, the Foo Fighters, the Beastie Boys, Incubus, or Matchbook Romance.
I recommend
Foo Fighters - In Your honor/ The Colour and the Shape
Incubus - Make Yourself
Rage Against the Machine - The Battles of Los Angeles / Renegades
Beastie Boys - SOlid Gold Hits (has their # 1's)

Peace

WOW! thanks i forgot all about those bands... he is a really hyper child so i bet he would really like Beastie Boys and the Foo Fighters.

yes thanks.

so far i have chevelle for him out of my music.. and then i got him trapt which he wanted and i got him all of staind's cd's..

thanks guys!

sleepy jack 05-24-2006 09:44 PM

If he likes the foo fighters, you might as well try Nirvana on him, then you can get him into the 200 nirvana rip offs also.

This kids taste in music is gonna suck =D

Foo fighters may have once been part of Nirvana when kirk was alive, but there sounds are completely different.. and i don't want to get him into completely depressing stuff.. i know he won't listen to anything for the lyrics.. but this is a kid that just wants to be cool. If he listens to nirvana and loves them and finds out the singer is dead he'll think its cool and want to try it.

his father is into all the grunge music and he won't listen to it because someone else in the family likes it.

his taste might suck.. right now he just wants to be cool i doubt that will change, its just the way he is. I don't think he'll ever be a music lover, but i might as well SHOW him music that at lest fits his hyper personality, in which not a depressing one.

and he's only 10 years old.. its time he gets into music and then hopefully will start learning and wanting to learn how to find it himself on the computer so he can forum his own wonderful music taste. and hopefully he'll stay away from rap.

Frances 05-24-2006 09:57 PM

Let him go wild, the stuff i listened to when i was ten was sooooo varied, I liked most music. my fave's were
Black Sabbath, Johnny Cash, The Drifters, Billy Squire, Little Richard, and the bloody Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack. (all from my parents collection)
His tastes will change, so give him access to everything you can.

Laces Out Dan! 05-24-2006 10:13 PM

Force him to listen to a band that will 100% not keep his 10 year old attention span...like The Mars Volta!

MURDER JUNKIE 05-24-2006 11:31 PM

G.G. Allin

That is all

TheBig3 05-25-2006 12:10 AM

I think trapt is terrible crap that took the last train out of nu-metal ville and will be forgotten shortly (I thought they already were).

TrampInaTux 05-25-2006 12:23 AM

At 10 the chances are that he will listen to anything and just say that he likes it so that he can join in with his friends. The chances are that his friends are also doing the same. Hmm... but like someone else has said before, get him the odd album every now and again but don't go smothering him with all sorts of crap, as he will probably turn all rebellious even before he's hit his teens.

And Bill, Jesus, you don't let up do you?

Blain 05-25-2006 02:22 AM

Screw his friends lol, give him a "So Fresh" CD and he'll shut up:)

DontRunMeOver 05-25-2006 03:19 AM

If he's really hyper, you could buy him some Drum'n'bass or some other kind of dance music (for men...)

One of my friends got very into techno and drum'n'bass when we were about 10. He'd sit at the back of the school bus, shouting out 'whistle posse' every so often and we'd all start whistling. God, we were stupid kids.

I like how you say I don't let up, when you essentially said the same thing I did. You're a real genius.

No no, there is a difference. I managed to do it without patronising EIMP, which nowadays you can't bring yourself to do. You make a good point and then ruin it by being a total twat. Woulda thought you got all that **** out your system by now, but nope.

bungalow 05-25-2006 02:09 PM

I said:

'Let him listen to what he wants to listen to.'

That's patronizing how....?

I doubt you would have said that if it were Big3 or Urban who had posed this question.

explosions-in-my-pants 05-25-2006 02:40 PM

considering the whole point was to find music for him, cause he wanted me to.. so what bill was getting on with doesn't even matter.

swim 05-25-2006 02:51 PM

ok but seriously get him this album
