I really like the Genesis album but the Yes album is slightly better. I still prefer Gabriel's solo stuff to Genesis, although I like Genesis.

Hmm, evening things up a bit. Why not, I still think Genesis will lose. I really should give Yes a bit of a listen. They could be even more horrible than Genesis.

That`s why I suggested it. Its an album that displays the worst excesses of prog. If the sheer length doesn`t finish you off, the endless prog doodling certainly will.

Oh right, yeah I see t you mean. I thought you were suggesting it because it's a great album. I bet listening to all 81 minutes would be painful.

81 minutes seems really painful, reading Urban's minute by minute review exhausted me. Never mind listening to the actual album. I actually believe listening to all 81 minutes would make me lose the will to live.

I don't want to ape the popular consensus at all you fool. I've never even heard of the album before it was suggested to me. I thought it was a classic in the genre of progressive rock at first. I have no idea what the consensus is, unless we're talking about the consensus of people on here.

It's 2-1 to people who dislike it.

And I'm going to make this perfectly clear, I am NOT listening to another pretentious, self indulgent Progressive Rock record just so I can say for sure 'yeah, that's bad. I don't like that.' 81 minutes of progressive rock SEEMS horrible, I bet the realities are far worse. I'm sick of listening to Progressive Rock albums just so I can judge them on their own merits. I'm done with it. You can't say I haven't tried the genre, because I have. I've just reached the point where I'm f*cking sick of it.

The great majority of the idiotic music press (Blender for example) that hates on progressive rock usually make Tales their greatest target and it's often cited as one of the main reasons prog rock fail out of favor.

Because of this when I checked the album out I had preconceptions that it would be horrible and what I found instead was a really damn good album that grew on me over time and only increased my love for the band.

I pretty much consider it the most misunderstood album in rock music history and not at all deserving of the smearing it gets.

Yeah it's a very long album but I think they suceed in providing enough interesting ideas to warrant the song length, for the most part anyway. The Ancient is too disjointed and padded out, the other 3 tracks are excellent though and besides it's not any more indulgent than the stuff Can did on Tago Mago. Yes should have made it a 3 side album but who in the f*ck does that? Release it as one LP and an EP?

Also 20 minutes of filler > 30 minutes of filler.
