One of the ultimate tough choices for me

In one corner - The mighty MC5, recorded live in Detroit, you can't go wrong. A MASSIVE Marshal Amp Attack, Rob Tyner's vocals calling you to attention.

In the other corner - The debut of the Stooges, new to the record scene (The 5 had some local singles already) and ready to crank up the amps to 11...although it was in the studio and so they had to turn them down a bit.

Still, although The 5 was one of the ultimate live bands, KOTJ has a couple of weak spots. The improv that may have sounded great live resulted in some wasted space on vinyl and although I know "Ramblin' Rose" is a fan favorite, Wayne Kramer's vocals just don't do right despite a killer guitar performance. I am more of High Time fan myself. Still, faults and all it's still a very essential part of anyone's High Energy collection and a classic testimonial to the power of Detroit Rock and Roll in '69 which boasts one of the most essential songs ever made.

The winner in this round has to be The Stooges. Sleazy and ready to shock, their debut seriously was ready for the kill.

The Beatles are so awesome they can somehow win a battle between MC5 and The Stooges.

Kick Out The Jams is a brilliant album but I've never given The Stooges a proper listen yet. Gonna download that album later.

Thinking about '68/'69, maybe with The Beatles (1968), but in my opinion both The 5 and Stooges topped Abbey Road in terms of serious musical impact as The Beatles were ending in the most professional way possible while KOTJ and the Stooges' debut were part of the start of a bold sound that was right for '69 and Punk (George Martin should have forced "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" into the out take bin). However, The Plastic Ono Band's "Cold Turkey" certainly stood up as a single that had the power to match the two albums and Live Peace in Toronto could have been a major contender with them if they would have practiced more before the show. Hell, John did not even have to play any kind of rebel on his classic single, he just was as honest as he could be while unleashing killer guitar riffs and screams so if I put that against "Kick Out the Jams" as a single that compromised it's opening or "Out In the Street" there would be a big battle going on.

By the way, I actually really like most of Abbey Road as George's ballads remain among the best of Beatles classics and "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" is a serious jam while "Come Together" still is a smooth sounding track, it's just in comparison with two albums in discussion, it's not that strong of a battle in my opinion.

Now, when comparing albums of the era, throwing Rolling Stone's classic era defining Let It Bleed into the battle on the other hand...

And Funhouse is even better.
I love the Beatles but I don't rate Abbey Road. Their worst LP IMO.

I'm loving the Stooges album at the moment, and I probably will like it more than Kick Out The Jams over time. But at the moment I'm going to go for Kick Out The Jams, the raw energy of this live set is amazing. It's one gig I really wish I could travel back in time to witness.

Any other combination of Stooges vs MC5 albums and Stooges would win every time.
However this is my least favourite Stooges album against the best thing MC5 ever recorded by a long shot, so MC5 win this one for me.

Both are really good. I disagree it's one of my favorite Stooges albums^^^. Apparently though the stooges were influenced by the MC5 and they were kind of ahead of there time. I'd have to go with The Stooges. A lot more easier to listen to and just sounds better.

The Stooges win 6-4!

I'll come up with the next battle...

Faith No More - The Real Thing (1989)

VS

Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking (1988)
