Devo's debut is incredible in its own right. Whom ever said it was forgettable beyond can't get no is dead wrong. Uncontrollable Urge, Gut Feeling, I can't get no, Mongoloid, Jocko Homo, Slap yer mammy, and Come back jonee, were and are exceptional songs. Two of my favorite albums from the 70's.
I see you are a true believer as well. When I first heard these two albums back in the 80`s they sounded so great and they still sound great today.

i only heard them recently

Heartbeat City (album) and Whip It (song) put me off The Cars and Devo, respectively, for a long time

Heartbeat City is a great album and kind of showpieces that power pop/synth based sound of that era, personally I love it. The singles from that album also had some superb videos made for them, the videos were well ahead of their time.

Whip It is from Devo`s flowerpot period and their third album and to be fair its a poor song.

F*ck it we'll just call it a draw so we can move on. 5-5.

Next battle, courtesy of SoundgardenRocks:

Megadeth - Countdown To Extinction (1992)

VS

Metallica - Metallica (1991)

Let the battle of the metal titans commence! Don't forget to give a reason for your vote as well.

I`ve listened to Metallica`s black album about a zillion times now and it still doesn`t grab me. The guitar riffs on Countdown to Extinction though are the biz and it was the final great album of their early to mid period. The follow up Youthanasia was pretty good as well.

Megadeth 1
Metallica 0

"Countdown to Extinction" is my fave Megadeth and is their "poppiest" cos all the tunes are catchy as hell.

The Black Album was stellar upon the first few listens but loses its bite after the 10th play, though some of the songs there are still my faves. And it's easily my fifth favourite Metallica.

Close run but:-

Megadeth - 2
Metaliica - 0

I haven't listened to either album in years, but if I was go and dig out one of them now I would listen to the Black Album. I don't really like Megadeth that much now but Countdown To Extinction is decent enough I guess. It has some decent songs such as 'Skin O' My Teeth' and 'Symphony Of Destruction' but then again it has 'Sweating Bullets' which I think is just terrible.

I really enjoyed the Black Album when I first heard it, it was my first metal album actually. I've heard 'Enter Sandman' and 'Nothing Else Matters' more times than I can stand but the album has some really good songs such as 'Sad But True', 'The God That Failed' and 'The Struggle Within'. Although the album isn't the band's best it doesn't deserve all the slack it gets, it still kicks the ass of a lot of metal albums today.

Megadeth - 2
Metallica - 1

For Album Wars I always listen to both albums before giving my decision. In this case I listened to Megadeth twice. I'll have to go with Metallica though since it has some of there more iconic songs and the Countdown to Extinction isn't as good as some of their other albums.

Megadeth - 2
Metallica - 2

Apart from "Skin O' My Teeth", "Symphony of Destruction", "Sweating Bullets", "Foreclosure of a Dream"(Extremely underrated), and "Victory" the album is crap.

The Black Album is solid from beginning to end. However, not a single song on it reaches the heights of awesomeness of the first 3 songs mentioned above.

For that reason, it's the classic debate of Megadeth's awesome high points vs Metallica's consistent mid points.

I'm going with Megadeth. But that's always my preference between the two.

Megadeth - 3
Metallica - 2

Terence Hill, as recently confirmed during an interview to an Italian TV talk-show, was offered the role but rejected it because he considered it "too violent". Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta declined the role for the same reason. When Al Pacino was considered for the role of John Rambo, he turned it down when his request that Rambo be more of a madman was rejected.

Victory was on "Youthanasia."

Anyway, while I like both albums, I'm giving the upperhand to Megadeth because I find that overall, the riffs are just better. And when I'm listening to thrash (even if it is pop thrash) riffs are what counts.

Megadeth - 4
Metallica - 2
