So... that was quite the album... I wish that some of the songs were better paced though because it seemed like every idea in the world was crammed into every song and it artificially lengthened them. I've always gotten the impression that they try to do too much with their songwriting. Not in the sense that there's so much going on at one time, just that they lengthen it with non-sequitur and abbreviated attempts at misdirection.

Maybe just not the stuff for me.

No I definitely agree about the songwriting, however I usually find myself listening more to the instrumentation on a first listen of an album than the lyrics. I think this stems from the fact that I'm a musician myself and my egotistical side is going "Yeah... I could play this, we're equals". It definitely isn't the album for everyone, but one of these days I'm going to do shrooms and listen to it because it was the perfect sound for me to create an awesome tripping soundtrack. Also here's a question, did you turn off my Alt. Country beginner's guide because you didn't like it or 30 songs was a little too much time to dedicate for one listen?

Oh also:

The Walkmen - Bows + Arrows

The sound gets a little grating after awhile but I've found myself enjoying this album, but I think I really need to sit down with headphones to get the full appreciation.

Nah, I took it in shifts, but I got to the whole thing eventually. And I quite liked a few of those artists, I could see revisiting one or two of them.
