I was looking at Odelay's RYM page; it said that it's genre's were: Alternative Rock, Hip-Hop, Lo-fi, Electronic, and Folk...is this thing seriously THAT eclectic?

Pretty much, but I'll always prefer Why?
He's a poor man's Beck, just twice as good.

Yeah I listened to it earlier at work. Its definitely much better than the first one he did & surprisingly heavy at times. Also 'The ****ing Song' is hilarious.
So do you like Pulp at all considering his solo stuff is nothing like it.

Elephant Eyelash was kickass but i'm not sure if it beat Odelay in that regard. bit more hip hop elements to it if that's what you mean.

I was referring more to the fact that they both do a great job of blending different styles together. There's no denying that Odelay is more impressive than Elephant Eyelash, Oaklandazulasylum.. what have you, but I'd still rather listen to Why?.. I find his music much more capativating.

Sorry forgot to mention, I listened to Sonic Youth's new album, 'The Eternal' today & it is sort of a 'Goo-light'. Has slight similarites to 'Rather Ripped' near the end & the first track has a bit of a punky sound to it.

EDIT: It aint officially out til Monday, but I had pre-ordered it & I got it today (2 days early!)

It's a sort of indie gypsy folk sort of music. Violin, two acoustic guitars, and an upright bass. Great harmonies between a boy and a girl. Pretty sweet stuff. You can check it out on itunes if you want.

gunnels 06-06-2009 08:24 PM

Everyone go and download this right now.
This album kicked my ass and blew my expectations to worthless, smoldering pebbles.

I was gonna go see him with some friends a couple years back but decided against it for whatever reason. Not that big into him really but w/e. My friends ended up chilling with him for a couple of hours after the concert, they all said he was like the nicest guy they'd ever met. I was semi-pissed.

dac 06-07-2009 11:08 AM

Oh and I'd go gay for you FaSho.

jackhammer 06-07-2009 11:16 AM

I haven't been getting too much new stuff recently compared to usual as I have been tidying my HD and getting the countless bit's of paper with band names scribbled on that I want to follow up on or are gaps in my collection so here goes

http://shopbase.finetunes.net/shopse...datatype=fc300
I have had a track hanging around for a number of years so followed up. Good solid chunky Metal without the histronics.

Fantastic soul/reggae/african beat combination that I have been after for nearly 20 years!

I'd be pissed I mean I'm not a big fan (I only have 1 album) but Ive really liked what Ive heard from him and I think it'd be cool to meet someone like that.

Finally got around to getting this album again, however it didn't have the same impact as it did when I was younger.

jackhammer 06-08-2009 06:32 PM

I have been desperate to find some music similar to my beloved Fat Freddy's Drop and after some extreme searching found these:

http://images23.fotosik.pl/34/218a1895efcc00f7.jpg

NZ band again. Moments of greatness but many banal moments too. Need to make their mind as to whether they want to be A dub/reggae band or vontinue with a soulful approach to their sound.

http://www.amplifier.co.nz/assets/item/4250/large.jpg
I could find no bigger pic so that means it's not that popular? great that's how I like it! After only two listens this is already becoming a smokey sensual love in blend of Reggae, Soul, Funk and cool vibes that gentlemen and ladies of a certain maturity can only enjoy ! It's shagging music. Simple as that.
