And I'm back from my latest music bender...

Allen Toussaint - Southern Nights

^ Sometimes words like awesome just aren't enough. Reads like a dusty old leather-bound book called 'everything that's amazing about classic New Orleans soul'.

I've also been getting hold of some modern(ish) German IDM;

Ellen Allien - Dust

Apparat - Walls

Moderat - Moderat

And some Youssou N'Dour that I realised I inexplicably didn't already have;

Youssou N'Dour - The Lion

I've given him a listen on and off, but I decided to finally get an album by him. It's pretty fantastic, the guy has a lot of talent.

Doesn't work quite as well as A Piece Of Strange for me, but it's one hell of a nice release nevertheless.

Acid rock nirvana with that little extra something to make it endearing in the mind.

If Nick Cave or Tindersticks is your thing you'll f*ckin love this.

Esben and the Witch - 33

Really great and highly recommended. I dig it like mad. "Marching Song" put the entire album instantly on my iPod.

Dave Matthews Band - Everyday

I decided that I spent too much of my time hating Dave Matthews Band, so I tracked down the album with the one DMB song on it I knew I liked. Still not loving them, but I don't want to vomit listening to them, which is a good sign and major improvement.

Have you checked out their full-length debut Violet Cries yet? It's an amazing album and one of the best of the year so far. 'Marching Song' appears on it in re-recorded form and it sounds incredible.
