Mirrorring - Foreign Body (2012)
A collaboration between Liz Harris (aka Grouper) and Jesy Fortino (aka Tiny Vipers). If you're already familiar with Grouper you won't be disappointed but there's a nice acoustic folk element here that makes this album sound warm and more accessible. It's a very isolating listen as something about the music seems to pull you into some sort of eerie psychedelic world, in a way similar to Flying Saucer Attack's album Further. Could very well be one of the best albums I've heard so far this year.

Blood Red Shoes - In Time To Voices (2012)
On the other hand this just sounds dull and uninspiring. I liked their previous albums Box Of Secrets and Fire Like This but this album just doesn't register with me. It really sounds like they have run out of ideas and have grown tired of what they do. There are a couple of decent songs here but that's certainly not enough to save this album from mediocrity.

Great album, in my top 5 of the year so far. Have you heard We Make Life Sad by Nicholas Szcsepanik? It's one hell of an ambient album and probably my top 2012 release thus far.

Yuh, this year's been all about ambient/drone releases for me so far.

Nope, but I certainly will investigate it. Thanks for the rec. It's been a strange year so far, I've been disappointed by quite a few albums that I'd been looking forward to or that I thought might be worth checking out. Maybe it's a sign that I need to find new sources.
