Still not checked that first one out, and the second looks cool. What style/genre is it?

It's really heavy sludge/doom, but with weird drunken vocals that almost don't work but manage to make the songs even more sinister.

Oddisee's records pretty good, reminds me a lot of early Lupe Fiasco.

Statement does not compute.

Not really a huge fan of that Oddisee record. It's alright, but a little boring by the end, especially after listening to Skelethon, which pretty much makes everything else not matter.

Nile - At the Gates of Sethu (2012)

Not sure when I'll listen to this as I haven't been in a metal mood for the last month or so, but when I do I expect to be impressed.

Aesop Rock - Skelethon (2012)

Can't wait to give this one a go, definitely going to be going on my mp3 player so I can listen to it with headphones at the gym.

Witch Mountain—South of Salem
First of all, I love this album cover. It's hilarious and awesome and fits perfectly with the tongue-in-cheek nature of the album title (which is a play on both their hometown's famous namesake and the similarly-titled Slayer album). The album itself is certainly very interesting. Imagine some nice heavy, sludgy doom metal with clean 60s bad-girl style vocals in the vein of Nancy Sinatra and you have a pretty good idea what this band sounds like. Definitely an interesting mix, I guess we'll see how it holds up to repeat listens.

so after reading this i HAD to track down this album.....listened to it three times in a row last night.....and can't deny how much i really enjoy.....the vocals remind more of Barracuda era Heart than Nancy Sinatra....but i can see what you mean.....and i kind of agree that when you vocals being done in this way it may be better to have them a bit over the music itself.....overall though a great album....thanks man :)

Bongripper—Satan Worshipping Doom
I'm willing to bet you can guess what this album sounds like by the band name and title, but if not, let me just say this is super-heavy, somewhat droney, instrumental doom metal with a slight experimental edge. Just what the doctor ordered for me right now. Really, if I could have conjured up exactly the music I wanted to listen to at this very moment it would sound exactly like this.

I like Bongripper and their ilk a lot.

That first album, like bob said, looks great.

I should check it out. Hey, I can see my town from there... there's Eugene.

Album art is funny because Oregon is so ****in beautiful, and such a hippy state, its hard to imagine evil residing here.

bob. 07-10-2012 06:30 PM

no evil in oregon!?

you ever been to Roseberg?

I'm gonna backtrack. I've been drinking this afternoon.

I'm just sayin' when I see the rivers and the forest and the mountains out here, ****, can't imagine any evil.

But no, I passed up Roseberg.

Eugene, for me. And Eugene is more or less hippy pleasantville, but as everywhere, with tweakers mixed in.
