Awesome album. I think that Radiale and Spaceways Inc. in general are among my favourite Ken Vandermark projects that I've heard. Plus when you throw Zu in the mix it's always fantastic. A lot of the songs are extraordinarily free but still super funky, which kicks some ass.

Lush - Split

Very soothing shoegaze/dreamy pop album. Surprised I have only just got round to it.

What is the best shoegaze/dream pop to listen to, i.e. the Illmatic of that genre if you will?

I currently have Bloom, Devotion and Teen Dream by Beach House and really like Bloom, haven't listened to the other two yet.

I realise this is probably a question without an answer btw.

the quintessential shoegaze album is My Bloody Valentine's Loveless, and this should probably be partnered with Slowdive's Souvlaki: these two albums illustrate both halves of shoegaze quite nicely. Loveless covers the noise pop influence, and Souvlaki the dream pop side.

I would say that the majority of albums in the genre capitalized on the sounds of these two.

I agree with Ped, and I don't think Illmatic is worth such esteem.

I thought Bloom was great at first listen. Then I listened a few more times. It aged horribly. It just became so nauseating and grating to my ears.

You can't go wrong with anything by Mew though, they have a sort of 'best of' compilation called 'Eggs Are Funny' that should give you an idea of what they're all about.
