The Daily Load:

Arca - Xen/&&&&& - This is intriguing my ear bulbs but not enough to make a purchase. I wonder if I am getting Electronica fatigue from all these solo glitch workouts. Great cover art though. Love the giant bed bug.

Kayo Dot - Hubardo - This is kind of all over the place - a mix of prog metal and more avant stuff. One song sounds like Frankenstein's Monster is singing lead. Interesting. Not Essential.

Royal Blood - Sounds like lesser White Stripes in an unholy union with Ted Nugent and I wish it was as interesting as that sounds. Great cover though.

David Toop + Paul Burwell - Wounds - one of those beat and scrape improv albums with lots of clanging and hooting. Intellectually interesting but not very engaging aurally. There are essential Toop titles but this isn't one of them.

Lords of Acid - Voodoo-U - Oh for the old Waxtrax days when bands like Ministry and MLTKK and the Lords were pumping out all manner of sexy Industrial dance fun. Coop's original devil orgy cover overshadowed the music, and still does, but their ode to sexually transmitted parasites holds up pretty well...

DJ Shadow/Cut Chemist - Ultimate Lessons - Ostensibly a collection of Cut Chemists Lesson jams, but with entries from other artists as well, so I'm not sure if these are original songs or remixes or tributes or...? Lesson 6 sounds exactly as I remembered it. Anyway, for fans, nice to have these all in one place.

Maximum the Hormone - Yoshuu Fukushuu - Absolutely killer hardcore album, continues a seeming trend to marry noise and pop melody. Call it Pop Hardcore if you want, but it just works. One of two releases of the day for me!

Tigerstyle - Mystics Martyrs and Maharajas - Slammin' Indian Hiphop had me bouncing and bangaranging all over the office. My other pick of the day!

Wow I was listening to Shpongle last night. The way they use their 'logo' is very consistent...

I'm going to get that deluxe vinyl edition next payday. Speaking of deluxe editions, this finally came in the mail. It's #29/100. I can't wait to see how much this goes for in the coming months.

John Zorn - Transmigration of the Magus

So John Zorn was that kid in your third grade class who couldn't sit still and do the same thing for five minutes. This is similar to his Dreamers material and it's as good as anything you'd expect from Zorn. From what I've heard of his releases this year this album is the low point, which says a lot about his other albums. Worth checking out for Zorn fans, but I think I'm going to go listen to The Alchemist again.

Due to college-related ****, I never actually got around to listening to Sky Blue (or anything else until now, really).

Egyptrixx - A/B til Infinity

Based on this and Jam City's Classical Curves, I have a feeling that Night Slugs might become my go-to label whenever I feel like listening to something when I'm tired that isn't ambient music.

Thanks for the heads up, was wondering if that new Zorn was anything special. I read on the label website that it's a sort of an ode to Lou Reed on the anniversary of his passing. I listened to one track but wasn't too interested.

If you haven't heard Valentines Day yet, you really ought to check that one out.
