https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....yFL._SS280.jpg Heaters - Holy Water Pool (2015) I added this to my queue when it was announced a few months ago, but don't remember what it was supposed to sound like. I think it ended up sounding more garage and a little surfy than I had expected. So I was caught a little off guard. The album seems to have potential and I need to give it another few spins to absorb. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/396c55ffc3a...62/5832771.jpg Soccer Team - Real Lessons In Cynicism (2015) Male/female duo from Washington, DC release the follow-up to their 2006 debut - which I'd never heard. Released and recently promoted by Dischord so it caught my attention. I need to give it a few more spins but my initial impression was good - I was reminded of The Evens as well as early Veruca Salt, two sounds that I enjoy. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/4c0dc1c6b11...ed/5778919.jpg Haiku Salut - Etch & Etch Deep (2015) A downtempo, folktronica type of sound by a group of women. It sounded nice but reminded me of some artists I listened to 5+ years ago. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/27464c602f5...53/5855576.jpg Chevel - Blurse (2015) Cool IDM/dub/ambient techno, very chill vibe and interesting sounds. Good for working, commuting, reading, or zoning out. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/9d0b79fb998...41/5883831.jpg Jeffrey Lewis & Los Bolts - Manhattan (2015) This is a fun one. I don't really know how I'd describe this sound - the album starts off with a few mellow singer/songwriter type songs but eventually gets a lot more engaging and goes a little bit into punk. I've seen it labeled Anti-folk and indie, and that seems to fit. There's some funny stuff in here and it sounds good. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/940d5baf2d0...9f/5811967.jpg Alex G - Beach Music (2015) Some chill and quite well done neo-psych/indie/whatever. Good album. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/46b7e2a7698...c4/5819225.jpg Oneohtrix Point Never - Garden of Delete (2015) Really hyped IDM guy. I've only listened to this one and his previous, R Plus Seven, which was really hyped last year but I didn't love it. This one's more approachable and I've listened to it 3 times (or twice). I like it alright, but also feel it might be a bit overhyped. A friend wants me to see him live next week so that might change my opinion. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/39b4bfb8b27...01/5765472.jpg Tzusing - A Name Out of Place Pt. II [EP] (2015) I think I first caught wind of this here on MB, perhaps Goofle posted it. I'm more of an album guy so I don't usually pay attention to singles or EPs from artists I don't know, but decided to try this. It's Industrial/Acid Techno basically, and it's quite alright. I like the crunchy production. I wouldn't mind hearing an entire album from this producer. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/9895e0ef8b3...c2/1675747.jpg Membranes - Songs of Love and Fury (1986) Post-punk/punk-pop or something like that. Relatively lo-fi and noisy with some nice melodies, gonna have to give it a few more spins. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/98f2c07f3f0...cf/2782503.jpg Ty Segall & Mikal Cronin - Reverse Shark Attack (2009) I've not enjoyed Mikal Cronin's solo material, but I was revisiting some older Ty Segall albums today and decided to give it a shot. Quite good, very loud and noisy garage and a nice early Pink Floyd cover. |
I did post that Tzusing EP. Fantastic imo.

Got the new Dave Gahan and Soulsavers collaboration, Angels & Ghosts. I love Gahan in Depeche Mode, but this album is pretty dull so far. Only my early reaction, but I'm somewhat underwhelmed after one listen. Very simple music, very polished and controlled, very musically predictable. Feels like Songs of Faith and Devotion Lite.

Islaja - Ulual Yyy
http://a4.mzstatic.com/us/r30/Music/...er326x326.jpeg On a more positive note. This weird Finnish lady makes some kind of strange folk music that got me really hooked. Full of dissonance, weird noises and unexpected beauty. Islaja - Palaa Aurinkoon http://blog.toright.com/wp-content/u...-Aurinkoon.jpg Got this one too. Another one of hers. Made my day too! |
Bringing back the memories of the first meetings of friends that I still have, and I'm sure will remain with me. My Punk years saw a mix of street-wise musical education that I would have never got in Small Dot. One of my friends had the second volume of Rodney on the ROQ (KROQ, for those asking), but somehow I think I also knew someone who had the first. |
Wow, that sounds like it is coming out of my laptop speakers, even though my pc speakers are plugged in. I checked my cables before I realized it was supposed to sound this way :P
I guess punk was never known for high end production. Nice album cover and the music is pretty cool I guess (not really into Punk (yet)). |

Actually, Dead Kennedys (not on the comp) had some very well-produced sounds on their records. Not slick, but sharp. At that time, a few AOR stations were serving up albums of local Rock bands pressed by some now-forgotten company which make this sound like the cutting edge of sound - some tracks possibly demos recorded on 4-track Cassette machines. Toledo's WIOT had one (and I have it buried in the collection somewhere!), but there's no videos of any of those songs (maybe it's for the best). |
Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel 1

Panda Bear - Person Pitch http://cdn.albumoftheyear.org/album/person-pitch.jpg Quirky. Ezra Furman - Perpetual Motion People http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/612quQoW61L.jpg This one blew me away. Tom Brosseau - Perfect Abandon http://cdn.albumoftheyear.org/album/...ct-abandon.jpg He had me hooked from his opening story. Hookworms - Pearl Mystic http://cdn2.thelineofbestfit.com/med...arl-mystic.jpg Good, but I need another listen. Janis Joplin - Pearl http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51cciQ%2BmeKL.jpg J'adore! Desaparecidos - Payola http://www.yellmagazine.com/wp-conte...dos-payola.jpg My first non-Bright Eyes Oberst. Loved it. Paul Simon - Paul Simon http://www.backseatmafia.com/wp-cont...imon-Front.jpg Me & Julio. Nuff said. Lisa Hannigan - Passenger http://wp-images.emusic.com/assets/2...sahannigan.jpg I first encountered Hannigan on Damien Rice's O. |
