Jelly Tones by Ken Ishii

ah hell ya. I have a lot of work to do this afternoon and nothing gets me in the zone like some good old fashioned dense, methodical bleep bloops

Over the last two weeks there's been a slightly out of control amazon binge happening for me:

Astrid Swan seemed to be sort of a cross between Sarah Slean and Kristeen Young. Seemed kinda fun for the bit that I checked out on Spotify. Took the chance on the two cheapest CDs I could find:

Astrid Swan

The four below are all blues rock artists. I listened to a large amount and picked the few that seemed to have the most personality as performers and most seemingly solid songwriting:

Beth Rowley

Lucie Silvas

Mollie Marriott

Vanja Sky

Also got a couple pop albums from some lesser known artists. Just seemed like they had some things going for them in terms of their sound and attitude. Especially Katy B had some subtle things going with her sound that I clicked with when I checked out some snippets on Spotify:

Tove Styrke

Katy B

My Indigo

Cont.: Also got two classical albums. One solo violin with some Shostakovich violin concertos, one solo piano with some Chopin études:

The debut album of Canadian metal band The Agonist. Modern metal. Somewhat melodeath. Never actually heard this debut. Sure to displease all current MB members:

The Agonist

Another Canadian metal band. Pretty straight forward heavy metal. Became more arena rock like later:

Kobra and the Lotus

US metal act In This Moment. I'm pretty sure I'll only really like the newest one at first, but I wanna give their old albums a chance. I fear it's going to be very, very, very, very difficult, even for me. But even the one that I will probably like is sure to make discerning metal nobility projectile vomit with incredible force:

In This Moment

Allright, almost done. Yet another Canadian metal act. Didn't even do that on purpose! This one is bittersweet. Kittie packed their things and quit this year. This career covering documentary and live concert will be their swan song:

Kittie

Can confirm that The Agonist suck.

That's a shame, I didn't know they were calling it quits. If you haven't heard Oracle I highly recommend it. It is a crushing slab of groove metal that reaches Obituary-levels of brutality at times:

I have all their albums and yes, it's really heavy. All of their three first albums sound like a 10 ton slab of metal when cranked on a good stereo. I love that fat bass sound.
