St. Vincent - Actor
A wonderfully off-kilter indie-pop album. The brilliant opening track 'The Strangers' grabs your attention straight away but you start to loose attention a bit though toward the end of the album. But I'm sure if I become more familiar with it it'll sound better and better. Great stuff though.

The Field Mice - Skywriting + Singles
I can't get enough of this band at the moment. This is a combination of their Skywriting album from 1990 and their singles from that period. This is a bit more experimental than their debut Snowball and has more electronic elements creeping into their sound, sometimes sounding reminiscent of New Order. There's still plenty of traces of the jangle-pop sound from Snowball on certain songs and the two styles seem to compliment each other well.

TheCunningStunt 06-21-2011 10:06 AM

The Field Mice are fantastic. Snowball is fantastic. Jangly Twee is fantastic. Zero, you're fantastic.

A Benefit For Anthony Poynter

A benefit comp done by Get Better! Records to raise money to help their friend battle cancer. It's a great cause from one of my favorite labels, worth the $10

Honestly Bruno Mars

But i believe the fleetfoxes album is brilliant

Sleeptime Gorilla Museum - Grand Opening and Closing
I've been meaning to get this one for awhile. On my travels I stopped over at a record store and found this CD for 5 bucks. Quiet an epic album.

A Black Sabbath tribute album without a single metal band on it.
Interesting.

Edit : Just finished listening to an acoustic instrumental version of Iron Man.
Am now listening to a bluegrass version of Changes.

No, this album is by Cameron Grey.
N*A*S*A is just the name of the album, not the artist.

Emmy The Great - Virtue
http://musosguide.com/public_html/mu...ue-300x300.jpg

Punk, punk and folk, not a bad pick up. I really liked Emmy The Great's new one, I am half way through P.S. Eliot and while it's slower then Introverted Romance In Our Troubled Minds, it's still very good and much more polished. I haven't heard the Spraynard yet, but I did hear one song off it that I really liked, so I have high expectations.

Just got this the other day. Haven't really listened to it seriously yet, been too busy with other music I'm trying to rate. But I've liked what I've listened to. Anybody got any suggestions for other good/better Polyphonic Spree albums?

This Scarlet Train - Fimbria
This 6-track EP from 1987 is the only release from this Scottish band. Their dreamy jangle-pop sound could possibly be a precursor to the shoegaze scene that would shortly follow and is sometimes reminiscent of The Field Mice. This is definitely worth checking out.

Which song did you hear that you liked? Except for "Ah Gun" and "Not Good Enough, Gary" I though the album was kind of lackluster.

I'm really digging this album. "Jesus Christ," "Mood Ring," "Sh*tty And Tragic," "Asphalt." All great tracks, but my favorite is "Untitled."

Les Rallizes Denudes - Great White Wonder

A 4-cd box set with bootlegged live shows from '76-'80. Pretty good, definitely worth the 60 dollars I spent on it.

I've only heard "Spooky, Scary" and I liked what I heard, plus I loved Cut and Paste so if it's similar than I have a good chance of enjoying the album. I'll listen to the album in its entirety tomorrow.

Haven't listened to that album in ages, I kind of forget I have it at times which is a shame. It's a pretty good album from one of the more under-appreciated indie-folk bands around at the moment. I still haven't got around to their last album No Ghost but I will soon enough.

Driztdor 06-25-2011 09:02 AM

My last bought/ legal download was Amorphis - ''The Beginning of Times'' from iTunes Store. Album was quite disappointment compared to previous albums of Amorphis. It had 2-3 good tracks, rest of them were only passable.

Have you heard Die Stadt Muzikanten? I thought it was pretty good, sounded like the album that Sufjan Stevens was expected to release in 2010 and didn't.

Haven't listenned to that one yet but I think I'm going to listen to their whole discography when I find the time to do so. I listened to Treasury Library Canada today at work and I liked it.

Not only is it a genuinely good film and despite it's age, one of the best movies regarding youth culture and dance music; the soundtrack is still essential listening to anyone wanting to dip their toes into this sort of music. As good as the Trainspotting S/T but with added fun. It has took me a few years to finally snag this.
