Swans - The Seer.
Quite simply astonishing. I don't even know how to describe it apart from uniquely disturbingly and beautiful at the same time.

Gorguts - Colored Sands (2013)

A little dirty secret about me... I've never listened to Gorguts. I was always aware of them and their contribution to death metal but for whatever reason I just never bothered to give their music a try, reasoning that I had probably already heard it before by other bands. That being said the amount of hype surrounding this album (at time of writing it is currently #1 on RYM's Top Albums of 2013) is pretty astonishing, so I'm really looking forward to listening to it without having anything to compare it to. It doesn't have the pressure of trying to showcase the band's continued relevancy, it just needs to kick arse.

I apologize for the size, but I have just now walked away a better man.

Isbjørn 08-14-2013 08:26 AM

Good choice, sir. It only has five tracks, but I'd say Shine On You Crazy Diamond makes up for that pretty well.

It does. Can't believe the whole records about Sid Barrett. That dude went looney.

Nice little haul and The Streets album has stood the test of time really well especially musically. There would be no Burial for sure.

What album is the one with the animals in the gold frame there?

The eighties matchbox b line disaster with the album The Royal society. Produced and mixed by Chris Goss. Such a shame they never made it :( I think they are no more. Mojo is a far bigger fan and would know more. They are English despite the flags in the vid.

Tickles my obscure music fancy, haha. Honestly haven't gotten to listen to the whole album all the way through, but the beginning sounds interesting enough for me to give it a good listen.

there is almost nothing as good in music as the first time you hear Cannibal :)

they really stepped it up with this one....i was just reading an interview with Lydia Lunch and they asked her what she thought of Swans getting attention....and she pleasantly said "sometimes it takes 30 years for idiots to actually get what beautiful is"

interested on the name alone.....but after listening to this track seems to me that it's a real fun rock album :)

Have some more Eighties B line. Damn I love this band!

Give me your skin for dancing in.

Trollheart 08-18-2013 07:27 PM

I am .... blown away. Speechless. I had no idea anyone could be half this good. I am now getting his full discography. How did I miss out on this? Every track isn't just great, it's exponentially better than the one that preceded it, until the album just reaches a glorious critical mass and explodes both in your ears and brain with one heartfelt word: YES!!!!!!

Currently listening to something else but I'm excited for this one. They've been quite prolific lately, even if last year's album Childhood's End was only covers.

Liking the Harcide album atm. Not entirely my cup of tea but it is good. That Gorguts album seems to be getting a super amount of buzz. #1 on RYM if memory serves me right.

No idea about the last one, but it was on somebody's AOTY list.

I love the other Gorguts albums I have. I'll have to check that one out.

What do the other two sound like?

Goofle 08-19-2013 05:38 PM

Not heard the last one yet, but the Hacride album is pretty much straight up prog/death Metal. Sound like Pop-Punk through a metal filter at times though. Maybe I am just being silly though.

Edit: This Rorcal album is some Sludgy Black Metal rubbish.

The last album I listened to was "Hail to the King" by Avenged Sevenfold. Their new album is set to be released on August 27th of this year, however, it was streamed on iTunes yesterday. (August 19th)

i just grabbed this as well.....i have to say that so far it's really good....she has an awesome voice and the minimal kind of industrial pop is a pleasant surprise for me.....also Thrilwell's presence is very much out in the open

also got

David Yow-Tonight You look Like a Spider

exactly what i was expecting but nothing like i thought it would be.....Yow on lots of acid maybe?, Yow having a schizophrenic seizure?....either way this album is amazing and although there are elements of what he is best at....they are few ...making this very unique and well worth a listen

Recently downloaded a show by The Mermen, from April 6th of this year.
The band sounds as amazing as ever, playing for 2 hours & 44 minutes and making the finest instrumental psychedelic surf music to ever come out of San Francisco (or anywhere else.)

Coconuts s/t

I heard one of their songs in a game, did a bit of digging, and apparently they hail from my city! I decided to purchase their 12" EP, and surprise myself with the rest of the tracks.

Floex "Zoyra"

So good, so fucking good. Wonderful jazz melodies mixed with electronic experimentation. I'm really, really enjoying this so far, and I really dig the acoustic instruments thrown into the mix of samples, and jittering beats.

I was playing them in Plug just the other night, introduced a few people to 'em. Floex is one of my favorite in the very vague group of bands I know of who play "electronic alterna-jazz." Not really a genre so much as an explanation. Anyway, good choice picking it up. Their other album is quite good, as well.

Bloodshot Bill—Thunder and Lightning
Sequoioideae played a live video of this one man rockabilly band in Plug the other day and it kind of blew my mind. I wasn't sure how well the raw manic mood of the live stuff would translate to a studio album, but the answer is it translates really, really well. Great stuff. Thanks Sequoioideae!
