What did you think of those? I'm undecided on Natalia, but I loooove Goldfrapp.

A recent download from 'Bustle in Your Hedgerow' an instrumental Led Zeppelin cover band, doing some fantastic live covers of Black Sabbath, The Allman Brothers, The Grateful Dead, Ween, The Beatles, Motorhead and others.
Worth a listen just for the 'Don't Stop Till You Get Enough>In Memory of Elizabeth Reed>King Solomon's Marbles' jam.
Great stuff!

Since I last posted...this is what I've downloaded.

Sudden Death Of Stars - Getting Up, Going Down (2013)

http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/5eb2c832c85...b7/2351527.jpg

Blitzen Trapper - Furr (2008)
Turned out to be my favorite album discovery this year so far, I'd say. Getting much enjoyment out of it.

The Growlers - Hot Tropics (2010)

The Growlers - Hung at Heart (2013)

Paul McCartney - McCartney (1970)

http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/e81f7247011...46/4759476.jpg

Steve Gunn - Time Off (2013)

http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/707f219fa17...97/4833976.jpg

Ty Segall - Sleeper (2013)
I like the more chill approach but it seems too samey to me. Maybe next he'll successfully mix his various styles into one cohesive and varied album. Good material though, just not varied enough.

http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/be55edeb03d...40/2756473.jpg

Montage - Montage (1969)

http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/09bdb27e83e...5f/4733500.jpg

Sulk - Graceless (2013)

http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/b7886592241...14/4630395.jpg

Holograms - Forever (2013)

http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/0156a481132...6d/4849161.jpg

Man Man - On Oni Pond (2013)
Not disappointed, may be better than Life Fantastic which was a little disappointing. Maybe now I'm used to their tamer style.

http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/46c62a6b166...75/4859908.jpg

Nine Inch Nails - Hesitation Marks (2013)
I still haven't gotten around to a second listen of this, but the first was pretty alright. About what I expected I guess, I think I'll get some enjoyment out of it. "Came Back Haunted" is still pretty silly.

http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/f8d91349a16...3c/4815945.jpg

Jackson and His Computer Band - Glow (2013)
not nearly as interesting as his last release. First half contains the awful "G.I. Jane" (WTF?). Second half is stronger.

http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/3bc3f09d6d8...85/4919087.jpg

Pixies - EP1 (2013)
Indie Cindy is pretty good I'd say, certainly could have been far worse. The rest was ok but not too worthy of my time. I guess I'll put it on a few more times to give it a fair chance. I'm not trying to be hard on them, but if you're gonna put out new music after this long it should be worth it.

http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/a08f2a6d4f1...1a/4920585.jpg

Pink Frost - Sundowning (2013)

http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/fbb313a9c88...de/2917242.jpg

The Coral - The Coral (2002)
Cool garage/psych pop revival stuff.

http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/0e89348aaa4...f0/3879138.jpg

The Beets - Let the Poison Out (2011)
Fun garage rock revival.

A couple of OK tunes on the NIN album but it didn't grab me at all. I really would like to see Reznor pushing the envelope and not make music that is relatively safe and dare I say uninteresting these days?

I agree, I really was hoping for something a bit different from a supposedly "reinvented" NIN. He hasn't done anything daring since The Fragile.

miRthkon - Snack(s)

miRthkon delivers once again. While this album ventures far more into the avant region of avant-prog than their last album, Vehicle, it still retains the funness that is sometimes lost in avant-garde music. This album is very jumpy, comical, and sounds like an overall mess that accidentally sounded good. Highly recommended for fans of Frank Zappa, Doctor Nerve, Panzerballet, etc. I wouldn't say that this has made my list for 2013 (yet, I expect for it to grow on me a bit).

Nah, I streamed it on bandcamp for free. I may look into paying for a copy but I'm going to give it a few more listens before I do so.

Mondo Bungle 09-16-2013 09:51 PM

Vehicle is all kinds of good.

Damn right, boi. After my first listen, I like Vehicle better than Snack(s), but I was kind of in a bad mood when I first listened to it so I'm going to give it a few more before I solidify my decision. Plus I didn't listen to much avant-prog before them so they sort of opened the gate for me, in a sense. I don't see this album quite doing that for me, or at least after my initial listen.

Christine_Blackwell 09-17-2013 12:23 PM

Last bought "Fuse" Keith Urban. I personally think it is his best album to date.

LoathsomePete 09-17-2013 12:31 PM

Cloudkicker - Subsumed (2013)

There's no artwork available at a reasonable size so you'll just have to use your imagination. If you're unfamiliar with this artists' previous works it's basically lengthy instrumental tracks wavering between melodic and heavy. Kind of straddling the line between rock and metal but I think it's enjoyable enough for both camps. Good background music if nothing else.

Touché Amoré - Is Survived By

It leaked! I can't wait to give it a listen, especially since Parting The Sea Between Brightness and Me was one of my favorite albums of 2011.

I built a Spotify playlist of all the GaragePunk Hideouts comps. It's about 200 songs, and I play it on shuffle as a kind of radio when I am not listening to other albums.

It's fantastic.

God Is An Astronaut - Origins

http://www.sputnikmusic.com/images/albums/137507.jpg

I really liked the direction they went with this album. It seems a lot heavier and more powerful. People have said it's a mixture of their old sound but made more present, which I guess in some cases is the truth. Still, definitely one I was happy with.

Dream Theater - Dream Theater

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...AlbumCover.jpg

It leaked yesterday and a good friend of mine found me a copy. Gave it a listen and HOLY COW. When they say they are going to deliver a good album, they mean it and then some. This album was one of the highly anticipated albums of the year for me, and they sure did pack a punch. It starts off with a stellar sounding intro, but once it gets into it, all you can really do is sit back, kick your feet up, and enjoy it. This album is the second with their new drummer Mike Mangini, and at first he proved to be pretty damn good, but now it seems to be that the whole band shows such good chemistry with each other. This album is one of the best if not the best Dream Theater album released to date, and I hold the opinion that Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is their best release. This one has really proven what this band can really do. Very very pleased, and am very excited to give it another listen as soon as possible.

Janelle Monae - The Electric Lady (2013)

Quite enjoyed this one, had the same energy as her last album and in some ways it reminded me of Deltron 3030, at least in the interludes. It did run a little long and there were a few songs I didn't care much for, but I was never bored at least. Definitely a great R&B album from this talented lady.

Nine Inch Nails - Hesitation Marks (2013)

I like this for the same reasons I like [With_Teeth] (2005). It's the kind of album that stays in the foreground of your mind, but is something you can zone out to. It's not boring or LCD pandering but it's also no great masterpiece like The Downward Spiral or The Fragile, but I guess if Trent wants to rest on his laurels then more power to him, he's earned it.

I purchased The Harrow and the Harvest by Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. It might be the best acoustic album I've ever listened to. One must check it out!!!
