Big Black - Atomizer (1986) After Pitchfork re-posted an article about essential Albini works, I figured it was about time I set time aside for Big Black. I was looking at some of his history and read that he used a drum machine on this material. I really didn't expect Big Black to have such an industrial rock feel to it, though it's certainly noise/post-hardcore as well, but does go well with things like Pigface. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....4AL._SS280.jpg Naked Raygun - Jettison (1988) I've had Naked Raygun in my queue for a while but just learned of the connection with Big Black. So, I pulled this out of my 1988 queue. Good first listen. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/9ca6947548a...65/3016427.jpg Dead Boys - Young Loud and Snotty (1977) Pulled from my 1977 queue, as I was reminded of it in another thread. Not bad on first play, pretty standard late 70s punk. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/20cdd36aad5...59/2933197.jpg The Stranglers - Stranglers IV (Rattus Norvegicus) (1977) Another punk classic from my very long queue. As is often the case when listening to classics from long ago for the first time, it'll need repeat listens to absorb and judge. But first impressions were good. I thought I'd listened to a Stranglers album before but as it turns out this is my first. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....2BL._SS280.jpg Yvette - Time Management [EP] (2015) Just learned about this one a few days ago and it came out today. I've listened to their 2013 LP Process a few times and liked it alright, a blend of noise rock, industrial rock, and post-punk. This seems along the same lines with a bit more electronic mixed it, giving it a dance-punk vibe at times. 4 tracks makes it very digestible. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/2cf5380cf5f...7a/5771391.png Wavves - V (2015) I really liked the last Wavves album, Afraid of Heights. It was a great blend of indie rock and surf rock/punk, pop punk even. After one listen to this one I'm left feeling like I listened to a somewhat generic pop punk album. Maybe it'll grow on me with repeat listens. After all this type of music is just meant to be fun, I just need its hooks to latch on properly. Maybe it's the vocals I didn't enjoy as much. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/4365bb913a7...05/5761250.jpg Girl Band - Holding Hands with Jamie (2015) I checked out this Dublin post-punk/noise rock band's two EPs recently and found some good material amongst some more challenging material. This debut LP was released last week but I'm just listening to it now as we speak. I will never win against my backlog. Oh so how is it? Well quite interesting so far. Noisy, a bit no-wave as well. Not all that much post-punk after all to this point. It's a dirty, unnerving, yet groovy record. |
You're recommending gold. I'll be listening to more than half of these records.

So i saw lana del rey here, just want to say: love it.
However, i just bought "godspeed! you black emperor"'s New album "asunder, sweet and other distress", and frankly, i'm disappointed. Mostly because the tracs don't remind me of the old GYBE. But hey, they tried |

Um so I bought this at the record store for a dollar. It's every bit as amazing as youd expect. Its a hypnotist helping you get over smoking and eating. Cant recommend this enough. On the non hilarious but still awesome side I also picked up: Mary O'Hara's Ireland for a dollar Inside (The Taj Mahal) by Paul Horn for a dollar Rubycon by Tangerine Dream for not a dollar Journey in Satchidananda by Alice Coltrane Spent a little over $50 and im quite pleased. |

Windhand - Grief's Infernal Flower This is a good album overall, but nothing mindblowingly good. I think this will be one of the albums that I throw on when I'm hanging out with my dad. There's a heavy Alice In Chains influence with the vocals/harmonies (arguably the best element of AIC and Windhand alike), but it doesn't feel like they're ripping AIC off, which is nice. |

Sealings - I'm a Bastard (2015) Lo-fi, noisy post-punk sounding, not bad on first listen. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/da103d90494...9a/5760673.png WAND - 1000 Days (2015) Quite good neo-psych/garage rock, and their second in the same year! http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/236327839a3...36/5722815.jpg Girls Names - Arms Around a Vision (2015) Post-punk from Belfast. I really liked their 2013 album The New Life, so I pre-ordered this one on cream vinyl. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/6dce7028122...97/5767095.jpg Protomartyr - The Agent Intellect (2015) Just started playing this one via Spotify. |

Acid Baby Jesus - LP (2011) I heard about these guys somewhere recently. I checked out a few tracks, and played the full album this morning. I was impressed, nice garage/psych rock/punk from Athens, Greece. http://rymimg.com/lk/f/l/4ff8deff2fb...79/5817362.jpg Coil - Backwards (2015) I've been a fan of industrial music since the early 90s but I was only ever a casual Coil fan. Part of the reason is that their CDs always cost so much that I never took a chance of them. I eventually checked out a few of their 80s and 90s albums during the 2000s, and the mid 2000s releases even more recently. This is a new archival release of an album that should have been released in the early 90s, after Love's Secret Domain. The material was remixed and reworked for release as The New Backwards in 2008, but here is presented in its original form. I have heard The New Backwards, but this is the first time I'm hearing the original versions even though some have been previously released on compilations. |

Christian Scott - Stretch Music Personally, I'm really digging this. But my opinion on jazz music I feel becomes justified if Frownland approves. |
Fred Frith & Evan Parker - Hello, I Must Be Going
http://cdn.discogs.com/PAPydRKefNNLL...-1603.jpeg.jpg Two of my absolute favourites on their respective instruments finally collaborated. So far it's as awesome as I imagined. I hope there'll be some nice parts with Parker's minimalistic, squeaky circular breathing thing. |

Killing Joke - Pylon (2015) I'm enjoying this so far, but it's not Album of the Year material which is sad. It sounds like a Greatest Hits albums, but with all new material. While Absolute Dissent (2010) and MMXII (2012) both had distinct styles, Pylon really just feels like it's a retread of everything they've made since Extremities, Dirt, and Various Repressed Emotions (1990). Still, it's definitely their heaviest albums since Hosannas From the Basement of Hell and it's always nice to see a bunch of guys in their mid 50's rock harder than the bands they inspired. |
New Prozak album is awesome. Strange seeing how he went from being this really corny and generic horrorcore guy with Aftabirth then changing to become a much more introspective and politically/socially conscious artist. |

Blut Aus Nord - Memoria Vetusta III: Saturnian Poetry |
I was compiling this post on Friday, and wrote out a little blurb about each album as I often like to do. At one point, as I was getting closed to finish, I went to open a new tab to look up some information. But instead of hitting Control-T on my keyboard, I hit Control-R and the page reloaded - my labored post gone forever. I've since recovered emotionally, but I'm not going to spend the energy typing my thoughts again. So here are the albums I've listened to since my last post:

Sturgill Simpson - Metamodern Sounds in Country Music I adore this album. Actually, his Live at Sun King Brewery is quite nice, if you get a chance to watch it. |

Sturgill and Jason Isbell came out on stage together one night last week, must have been a badass show live. Was pretty cool on video. |

The only other album of his I've heard is High Top Mountain, which I love. Moving on to next album today: http://www.velocitiesinmusic.com/wp-...11/11/MGMT.png MGMT - MGMT I liked this band the first time I heard them, but like turned to love when I saw this video of theirs. |

What a voice. I'm not well versed in Soul music, but this has to be among the best albums ever recorded in the genre. And one of the greatest live albums ever, period. I've always loved live albums and this is one of the best I've heard. |
