The production/beats is what really roped me into Flatbush Zombies to begin with but what kept me there was the growly type flow that Meechy has. Better Off Dead was my favorite mixtape of theirs and I know some people prefer D.R.U.G.S. but it's the opposite for me. This official release feels like a mixture of the two but it also seems like they are trying to mature a wee bit in terms of lyrics. They toss out a few socially conscious type bars in the closing track but not enough to be of any significance. |

@djchameleon
Thanks for the explanation. See, for me, I kinda hate rap. But not completely. If the rap is done to my liking (that doesn't mean it has to be done well, just that I like it), then I like it. I like Deltron 3030, Lil Dicky, Aesop Rock (but only with The Uncluded), Outkast, and early Black Eyed Peas (Back to the Front and Bridging the Gap -- everything else sucks, in my opinion). I listened to TPAB while intensely working on a hand-drawn fantasy map for my gaming group. It was an intense experience, and I could see the value of the album, but it's just not my thing. Most hip-hop is an eyerolling experience for me, because I hate hate hate when black people use the word nigger. I ****ing hate it. So, I hope Flatbush Zombies will fit in with what I like. |

Have you heard Bestiary by Hail Mary Mallon? Pretty great nonthreatening Aesop Rock album. |
I listened to, like, seven Aesop Rock albums trying my best to like him. I just couldn't.
And for the record, people can say whatever they want. I'm not looking to censor anyone. It's just why I don't like most hip-hop. |
I recommend watching some Boondocks to overcome that and laugh your ass off in the process.
Here's a cut from Hail Mary Mallon, it's not just Ace but it has Rob Sonic as well. |

Three fun finds today! NP: My first grab from my local antique store before the show - 12" of Panda Bear and Ducktails - Killin The Vibe (ltd to 500 copies).
I seriously feel old finding chillwave / neo-psychedelia at an antique store. http://i.imgur.com/P9u0RgNl.jpg |
Find #2 of 3 today - this one also from the antique store. There's a record dealer there who thought of me and went out to his car for it because he was sure I'd like it.
He was right on. Michael Hoenig – Departure From The Northern Wasteland. Essential Berlin School bliss. http://i.imgur.com/UNUdNJNl.jpg |
Now playing find number #3 today - The original pressing of Moondog and Friends (1953)
I was looking for electronic LPs from the late 60s to the early 90s and hadn't had any luck at the record show. Just before I left my favorite record dealer (the one who'd called me about Eno's The Ship on Friday) tapped me and told me that he'd spotted a spectacularly clean original copy of Moondog and Friends across the building that he knew I'd want to see. Didn't have to think twice! http://i.imgur.com/KLwbo76l.jpg |
Hooray! Another album hit my doorstep today! NP: Tom Waits - Real Gone, and I'm picking up One From the Heart this week as well.
Then I'll only need Bad as Me to finish off my collection. Good times. http://i.imgur.com/caQBJEyl.jpg |
Not a full album, but the new EP from the Greek hard rock/heavy psych band Naxatras...

I've listened to their hits, but never given any of their records a front to back listen. Love "The Changeling", "LA Woman", "Been Down So Long". Hell I love this whole record. |

The Cure somehow master the mesh between beauty and depression, and it works really well in this record. |

Sun Of Man - l (2013) |
Started "b".

Awesome image gallery everyone. Might be cool if people would say something about these albums though.

Meh. I'll give it a shot. AC/DC - Back in Black http://media.onlinedrummer.com/wp-co...heet-Music.jpg Though I already knew several of the songs, this is the first time I've listened to this album. This band is like Guns N Roses in that they are everything Real Estate isn't. Amy Winehouse - Back to Black http://cdn1.theodysseyonline.com/fil...o%20Black.jpeg After a long day of work, I'd put this album on to heal me. I still like it, but it's lost some of its charm. Not sure why. Maybe I overlistened to it for years? Halsey - Badlands http://images.rapgenius.com/7be09b51....500x500x1.png I don't know enough about this album yet to have formed an opinion, but it seems to me that the life philosophy put forth in "Hurricane" can't be good for the artist in the long run. Skrillex - Bangarang http://assets.rollingstone.com/asset...905511d220.jpg I knew a guy a couple years ago. I thought his thick-rimmed glasses and tribal tattoos were cool. Then I saw a photo of Skrillex and felt betrayed. This is the Kit - Bashed Out http://s8.postimg.org/kebiihnjp/1428327388_500.jpg I dig it all around. Just right for me. Alex G - Beach Music http://cdn.albumoftheyear.org/album/...each-music.jpg I enjoyed giving this album a first listen while lounging back on my Esse. NSFW! Beachwood Sparks - Beachwood Sparks https://subpop-img.s3.amazonaws.com/...jpg?1389008209 This album always makes me think of Todd. I met Todd back in 1997, and he had an extensive collection of CDs he let me borrow. That got me into Bowie for the first time, and this album was quite a gem for me, too. |
Last album I listened to was 'Twilight in Middle-Earth' by Blind Guardian. It really takes you on a journey through Tolkien's world if you are into metal.
|
Amsterdam - Burn the Night
https://f4.bcbits.com/img/a2629444128_7.jpg These guys came to town last month and I bought their CD. It feels very, very familiar, but I can't quite say what it reminds me so strongly of. Sort of like if you took every girl-fronted '90s "alternative rock" band and threw them all into a blender together. |
Pond - Beard, Wives, Denim
http://www.resident-music.com/image/...48-500x500.jpg The nation has been on holiday for a week, so jumping back into work on a Friday is kind of weird. This album, my companion on my 12-kilometer cycling journey to work, shook the holiday cobwebs free. |
I generally listen to all my albums in alphabetical order. I'm on B now.
Bear in Heaven - Beast Rest Forth Mouth http://www.buddyhead.com/wp-content/...B002LFPA66.jpg This'll be staying in rotation. Loved the synths. Glass Candy - B/E/A/T/B/O/X http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51aFO15UCYL.jpg Nothing like starting an album to make it sound like a home exercise tape! The Beatles - Beatles for Sale http://www.beatles-history.net/image...s-for-sale.jpg Yeah...this one is leaving rotation. Other than "What You're Doing", the songs just aren't convincing. Villagers - Becoming a Jackal http://cdn.albumoftheyear.org/album/...g-a-jackal.jpg First listen. Very impressed with this debut effort. This album started just as the rain started, which seemed appropriate. M83 - Before the Dawn Heals Us https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...n_Heals_Us.jpg First listen. Talk about being late to the party! Wow. Girlpool - Before the World Was Big https://i1.sndcdn.com/artworks-00011...8-t500x500.jpg Some of them lo-fi indie girl tunes. SOAK - Before We Forgot How to Dream http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51pAuapDZRL.jpg Some of them dreampop tunes. Good stuff. The Rolling Stones - Beggars Banquet http://img.amazon.ca/images/I/51PLYreKV5L._SS500_.jpg And as he jumped up on the stage My hands were clenched in fists of rage No angel born in hell Could break that Satan's spell The Black Eyed Peas - Behind the Front http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61DOSSizKEL.jpg Their early stuff is better. I know that sounds hipster, but it's true. Belle and Sebastian - Belle and Sebastian Write About Love http://www.tinymixtapes.com/sites/de...tian-write.jpg I felt like I was listening to NPR. |
