Makes sense if you just think about it. No, gangsta rappers aren't the worst thing that's happened to music. I never said they should be #1. I asked where they were on the list, under the assumption that they should be on there.

Then I changed it to say that it should be the people who write the lyrics. For this reason only -- I think the messages in the majority of the songs are... well, nothing near upstanding.

There's trashy gangsta rap, and there's good gangsta rap.
Just like any other genre of music.

I think it's funny that Christians focus their energy on gangsta rap, and turn their heads from things like Black Metal, and Death Metal. Gangsta rap is the least of the worlds problems. If some guys wanna rap about getting high and drunk, who cares? I can't stop them, neither can zealous Christians. What about the crazy Norweigen man who sings about crucifying preists and burning churches, protest them.

You could change this to "Music is the least of the world's problems"

Too many people put too much weight on what "music is doing to today's youth! Oh my God!! Did you hear that? "

The youth of today get it. It's the adults that make a big deal about it, you know?

Please, point me in the direction of good gangsta rap. I'm not being (completely) sarcastic - I really would like to see good gangsta rap.

I've listened to both those types of metal, and I'll agree that their lyrics are even worse than those of gangsta rap. Problem is, though... do death and black metal get played on Top 40 radio? That usually defines the mainstream, and face it, many people are mainstream music listeners. Which means more people (well, probably) listen to gangsta rap than death/black metal.
