I heard in Germany they have a convention where they play orchestrated versions of his songs, if I am not mistaken.

It's called "Zappanale".
They don't only play orchestrated versions though and there are also some other bands playing their own music.

What else do they do? That sounds cool.

Here's this years line-up. A very cool one indeed.
But no orchestrated music at all it seems.

jftr I never said that they played orchestra music in "Zappanale".

However orchestrated version of Frank Zappa are not rare, and are done throughout Europe, and America universities etc.

Well, Tom pretty much said that there is no band that could not look bad opening for Slayer...it's a really stupid statement to make. He's saying his band has a better live show than Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Anthrax, any of the other really big Metal bands from the mid 70's, through the 80's, or generally, Tom is saying that there is absolutely no band that can top Slayers live show. If that isn't an I'm so f*cking full of myself kind of statement, I don't know what is. All I can say is it only gives me more reason to think Tom is a pretentious bag of sh*t, lol. I don't care about the irrefutable fact of Slayer being able to completely command their audience, that's respectable, yes. But I don't care how big a band is, statements like what Tom made doesn't look good at all, not to me.

At first my brain processed this as "Tom Petty said there is no band that could not look bad opening for Slayer."

And I'm like WTF does Tom Petty have to do with Slayer? Dementia may be starting earlier than I'd hoped.

Unpopular opinion apparently: I could give a fuck about the artist's personality, their music is all that matters to me. While trivia like Steve Reich is a gaping asshole is interesting, it's not going to change the fact that Piano Phase is one of my favourite classical pieces.
