As it stands I'd give it a 3/5. If Hetfield didn't sing-ah on it, it'd easily be a 4 or more. I think Cheat on Me especially is a very different and interesting direction for both groups.

I think Metallica are horribly out of place for much of the album. Some parts worked surprisingly well, but most of it just sounded awkward to me.

at the very least it's not as dry and boring as everything else they've recorded in the last two decades

a lot of Reed solo stuff is actually surprisingly not even decent

mostly because he recruits some really uninspiring guitar players to 70's **** all over decent songs

Transformer is gold because the guitar driven tracks are VU reworks and then you get Big Band Broadway type stuff with Good Night Ladies and a piano track with Perfect Day

Blue Mask with the Voidoids guitarist is p good as well
Agree with all of this though.

Exactly what I feel. Every Metallica album starting with St. Anger captures the band from a really bad side. I don't enjoy Hetfield's vocal tone or his and Hammett's guitar tone at all on newer albums. The last thing Metallica did that actually sounded good was that Mission Impossible 2 single, I Disappear.

Bring back Bob Rock! Oh wait, he did St. Anger too... Never mind then.

Come to think of it, if a band is named "The [insert word]", I tend to dislike them.

*A Forest is a cool song at least.
Disagree with the bolded. I love VU.

Very boring set of bands though. The Smiths are pure shit.

And "Venus in Furs" is still one of the greatest rock songs ever. Along with a few other of theirs. I mean c'mon!
WLWH is the one I didn't like tbh

My 2 cents:
The Clash - boring
The Smiths - always thought they were boring as hell but a few months ago I actually got into them. Still far from a fan but getting there
The Velvet Underground - early VU is gold
Joy Division - kinda good but also kinda boring
The Cure - okay but boring. Could never bring myself to listen to a whole album
The Cars - pretty sure I've heard them at some point but they left no impression whatsoever
The Police - boring pop crap
Devo - early Devo is pretty damn cool but I usually go with Pete Ubu when I'm in the mood for something like that
